Unlike a bomber jacket, the Harrington has a flashy collar that gives it a more smart casual appearance. The original design, the G9, first appeared in the 1930s but didn’t get the name “Harrington” until years later.

In the 60s, veteran actor Ryan O’Neal portrayed Rodney Harrington in the hit series Peyton Place. O’Neal’s character wore the jacket so much that it soon became known as the Harrington.

Duffle Coat

The duffle coat can trace its origins to the 1450s in a small town in Belgium called Duffel. Since the 11th century, the city has manufactured a thick, coarse fabric called duffel. By the 1850s, they used that material to create the original duffle coat. It regained popularity during World War II with soldiers wearing the jackets.

It was typical for countries under Nazi rule to wear duffle coats to pay tribute to the Allied soldiers that freed them. However, it now uses a softer wool fabric, Melton Cloth. It comes in various styles but is usually short, fitted with large patches and a hood.

61 Best Coachella Outfits for Men https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/best-coachella-outfits-men/ Tue, 18 Apr 2023 15:00:59 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=248619 …]]> Coachella is one of the world’s most anticipated music festivals, known for its incredible lineup of music artists, stunning desert setting, and iconic art installations. Held annually in Indio, California, Coachella draws music fans from around the world who come to experience the festival’s vibrant and energetic atmosphere. It’s also a time when people get their fashion on and wear their best outfits hoping to impress everyone with their fit.

Although the second weekend is about to kick off, one thing is for sure – it’s never too early to start putting your looks together for the next Coachella music festival. You need to have your outfits on point and Instagram-ready. You never know who you’ll run into at the infamous concert in the Southern California desert…

The 61 Best Coachella Outfits Men Can Wear This Weekend

1. Boho Top and Shorts

This is a pretty easy look to pull off because it works on everybody. Temperatures can be pretty sweltering in the desert sun, so shorts are a good go-to for the daytime. Keeping them light in color not only detracts from heat but also makes it easier to match with brightly colored boho shirts. Having a button up short sleeve shirt allows you to keep it closed for sun protection or open a few buttons to feel the desert heat on your skin.

Keeping your Coachella outfit light and tonal in color is another great way to beat the heat. Camouflage yourself with your desert surroundings with white, cream, and khaki. Linen is a great fabric for staying and looking cool. At the very least, a linen scarf wrapped loosely around your neck will help with sun protection.

2. Flowy Top and Distressed Jeans

Personally, I don’t wear shorts, no matter the temperature. And distressed jeans are perfect for that rock-n-roll casual vibe without looking like you’re trying too hard. Throw on a flowy button up shirt and aviator sunglasses and let the good times roll! Black or denim jeans won’t show as much dirt since you will be exposed to the elements of nature, but white is always a good option for a lighter, more casual vibe.

Unbutton your shirt if you’re trying to show off your summer body. Just don’t forget about sunscreen! If you’re still in winter fluff mode, just keep a few at the top unbuttoned and enjoy the safety and protection from the sun and prying eyes.

Sneakers or boots are my recommendations for every outfit when it comes to festivals and concerts in general. There are plenty of people, a lot of dirt, too much sun, and frankly, flip-flops or sandals can really take a perfectly planned outfit down a few notches, especially when you’re in distressed jeans mode. Kick up the badass factor with a pair of Dr. Martens, Timberlands, or your favorite pair of broken-in Air Force 1s.

3. Flowy Top and Pants

Here’s a chance to show off a little more style. A pair of plaid pants with an easy-breezy long sleeve flowy button up, with the sleeves rolled up, is great for the evenings when the nighttime desert temperatures start to cool down.

Fitted flat-front khakis, gray chinos, or even navy pants, rolled at the cuff and worn with a short sleeve button up are always a great option. Wear the shirt fitted as well to show off the arms that you’ve been working hard for. Not there yet? No worries, you have a year to get in better shape if that’s what you’re after. If not, then when it comes to shirts, the more flowy the better. You can always wear your shirt unbuttoned over a t-shirt. Just don’t wear the t-shirt of the band you’re getting ready to go see. That’s a rookie mistake, my friend.

5. Hawaiian Shirt and Pants

Take your favorite Hawaiian shirt. Pair it with your favorite pants. Done. Ok, ok, here’s a little more styling help: pair white jeans or pants (dealer’s choice) with a white v-neck t-shirt. Then wear your Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned over it to pull the look together. This will keep you from looking like you’re attending a Labor Day party and trying to wear all your white clothing at once before fall.

Another simple way to wear this shirt is with jeans. Distressed or not, a bright red, blue, yellow, or orange Hawaiian shirt pairs perfectly with basic denim. Again, a pair or closed-toe shoes or boots is the way to go in an outdoor festival environment.

6. Hawaiian Shirts and Shorts

Remember wearing your Hawaiian shirt open over a white v-neck t-shirt and white pants? Replace the pants with the same white shorts you wore earlier with your boho shirt, and voilà, you have used clothes you brought for multiple purposes. This is under the assumption your white clothes didn’t get filthy and sweaty the first time you wore them. And honestly, even if they did, the rules are different at a festival. Normal social constructs do not apply in this world – at least with hygiene and fashion.

7. Open Shirt and Pants

You’ve already worn versions of this outfit multiple times. Your biggest decision is whether you wear a shirt underneath the open button up or not. That is up to you. An in-shape body is a dime a dozen when Los Angeles is so close, but the truth of the matter is, confidence is everything. Rock your dad bod. No judgment. At least not from me. Have you seen some of the outfits and bodies at this festival? Trust me, you look great.

9. Sleeveless Tops and Pants

Let’s call a sleeveless top what it really is – a tank top, which, in the hot desert sun, might be the perfect shirt to keep you cool. A black sleeveless top with black distressed skinny jeans, a pair of classic black Vans, and a red bandana around your neck is simple, yet stylish. Wear a long sleeve plaid button up or flannel around your waist to throw on when the cooler weather of night starts to roll in.

10. Sleeveless Tops and Shorts

The shorts you have repurposed multiple times need to be put away. Time for fresh, clean shorts. A longer pair of denim shorts, cuffed and rolled at the knee, matches literally any sleeveless shirt you want to pair them with. A high-top sneaker looks especially good with this style of shorts. Throw on a short sleeve open shirt on top and a pair of sunglasses and you’re ready to travel effortlessly from stage to stage to see your favorite musical acts.

11. T-shirt and Shorts Outfit

Brighten up your day and have fun with a simple yellow t-shirt and matching yellow shorts. Bonus points if your shorts have miniature embroidered shapes on them. Throw a belt bag over your chest to break up the color. Or choose to keep it simple and just throw on any t-shirt and any shorts. They don’t even have to match. It’s Coachella. Either people don’t care about what you’re wearing at all or they care too much. And who cares what they think? You do you and have fun with it!

The best part about festival fashion is being able to mix-n-match. Using the same few pieces in different ways to create entirely new looks means less packing for you and just makes life easier. Pre-planning your looks also takes the guesswork out of getting dressed when you’ve been in the sun and the heat for multiple days.

Adding a hat and a scarf or bandana around your neck will help protect you from the sun, which, as I’ve mentioned repeatedly, is very, very hot. Even in April. If this is your first time at a Coachella festival, buckle up, buttercup! These are memories you will not soon forget unless you just don’t remember them to begin with!

20 of the Biggest Fashion Fails in History https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/fashion-fails/ Fri, 14 Apr 2023 19:00:03 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=297680 …]]> Over the years, there have been numerous fashion fails that have left people cringing. Happy pants, mud jean vests, and shoulder pads are some of the worst fashion trends that were once popular. These days crocs with socks and tight jeans have become fashion no-nos. But of all these fashion fails, there are some that should never be repeated.

These trends, many endorsed by celebrities, often inspire fans and followers to adopt them. But like a supermodel tripping on the runway, these fashion fails fall flat. While it’s essential to express yourself through fashion, also understand it is important to make sure your choices are both stylish and tasteful. Below is a selection of the biggest fashion fails in history that need to be avoided.

20 of the Biggest Fashion Fails in History

1. Jean Thong

Rumor has it Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears wore jean thongs under their iconic matching denim outfits they rocked at the 2001 American Music Awards. That should be reason enough to highlight how horrible this fashion trend was.

2. Mud Jean Vest

Apparently, the missing piece to having the perfect expensive jeans vest is looking like you just rolled in a puddle of mud.

3. Mickey Mouse Is in the House

Mickey Mouse is a beloved cartoon character. He’s a legend that changed the industry forever. Like a classic Mickey Mouse cartoon, this fashion fail is stuck between a rock and a hard place.

4. Eyes in the Back of Your Behind

Look deeply into the eyes of this fashion disaster. When they look at you, it’s like you’re the only person in the room. Whatever you do, don’t break eye contact or you’ll miss the full moon.

5. Barley There Jeans

The barely there jeans are ideal for any celebrity looking to cause a stir and make headlines when showing up on the red carpet for the Oscars, Grammys, or Emmy Awards. On the other hand, this type of outfit is considered normal for the Met Gala.

6. Mud Stained Clothes

It appears that mud-stained clothes are all the rage these days. Perhaps celebs like Katy Perry and Ariana Grande will one day wear mud-stained dresses to match their mud-stained shoes on a red carpet. Well, we hope that’s mud!

7. Anxiety for Kids

Durph08/Reddit

Anxiety for Kids clothing line has the right idea. Kids will grow up to become adults full of anxiety and worry; they might as well start them young. From the same brand comes Depression for Teens and Stress for Adults.

8. So Fine Jeans

So Fine jeans take denim to a whole new level. Anyone who wore these cheeky jeans would be committing the fashion faux pas of the century. Well, unless it’s Kim Kardashian or Harry Styles. They could pull it off. Maybe Queen Elizabeth II when she was alive?

9. One Toe Show

Celebs like Kylie Jenner, Doja Cat, and Helena Bonham Carter walk the red carpet in stylish outfits, but none would ever be seen dead wearing these toe exposoing shoes. This fashion disaster is hard to put into words and something we are glad is not a modern trend.

10. Pizza Shirt

jadalorrx/Reddit

Some fashion fails are more confusing than others. Most people love pizza, but there are a few foodies who can’t stand the delightful Italian treat. According to these pajamas, some people hate pizza so much they want to fight it. These pajamas are so confusing it is impossible to tell if it’s a fashion failure or promoting a pizza fight club.

11. Elf Girl Swimming Shorts for Men

SpookyVoidCat/Reddit

Excuse me; my eyes are down here. It takes a bold person to wear these swimming shorts featuring an imge of a little girl elf right where the crotch is. They’re so bold you might need to do a background check on whoever is wearing them.

12. Teaching the Kids About the Solar System

Clothing companies have a responsibility to help educate children about the solar system. This company accurately displays Neptune and Saturn while also makring the locatino of (Ur)anus.

13. Red Spot

Portugal has produced some of history’s greatest footballers. If there’s one thing they know, it’s soccer and fashion. The team’s unique shorts feature an oddly placed red dot, giving their rivals something to aim for. It brings a new meaning to “where the sun doesn’t shine.”

14. Crabby Flip Flops

LydiaAgain/Reddit

At first glance, these crab flip-flops are fashion failures. Most people would never wear these to the beach let alone around the house. If there’s one celebrity we think could pull them off it would be Pete Davidson. He’d somehow manage to walk down the red carpet and leave with the most beautiful woman at the event.

15. Bear Jacket

Celebrities often wear the most outrageous and stunning outfits they can find when attending award shows. Some stars show up wearing black from head to toe, like Kim Kardashian, while others come dressed as food, like Lady Gaga’s famous meat dress. It’s that rare time Hollywood celebs are encouraged to let their creativity flow. That said, the golden bear jacket is atrocious and a fashion faux pas to most people.

16. Will Ferrell’s Crotch

Will Ferrell is one of the most famous actors and comedians in Hollywood. He rose to fame as a cast member on Saturday Night Live and became a household name starring in the Christmas classic Elf. Fans of the movie were thrilled to buy Elf socks featuring Ferrell. The socks also show off Ferrell’s best feature and most extraordinary talent, his crotch.

17. Coffee Stained Shirt

There are some days when everything that can go wrong will go wrong. You have a big job interview the same day your car breaks down, you miss the bus, and then you spill coffee all over yourself. It’s easily the worst morning of your life. Well, it turns out that fashion is going in that direction. Now you don’t have to wait for a bad day to look like you had a bad day. All it takes is throwing on your coffee-stained shirt and everyone will think things are going south.

18. Bad Grammar

It’s rare that a piece of clothing is both a fashion failure and offers confusing advice. There is nothing that young girls in this world can’t do. They can become sports icons like Serena Williams or a media mogul like Oprah Winfrey. As this t-shirt encourages: “girls is can the therefore.” In other words, girls can do anything, unlike this tee that needs a spell and grammar check.

19. Giving Up Is an Option

Sometimes a piece of clothing just speaks to a person. There are hundreds of t-shirts sporting positive affirmations like “Impossible is Nothing,” “Protect this House, and “Just Do It.” Well, finally, a fashion blunder had resulted in a t-shirt made for quitters. “Yes, giving up is simply an option.” So is being a poor sport, taking your ball and going home, and claiming you didn’t lose is all good according to this t-shirt.

20. Mustard Dress

Apparently, a brilliant designer was once in the middle of a wild food fight. They were trying to hide when they got hit with a bottle of mustard. As they stood there covered in mustard, they had an “aha” moment. Why not an entire clothing line covered in food?

Despite being a terrible idea, someone designed this stunning dress with stains to look like mustard. We’ve heard they’re working on a ketchup summer dress, a relish mini-skirt, and hot dog bun speedos for men.

22 of the Worst Fashion Trends We Hope Never Come Back https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/worst-fashion-trends/ Wed, 29 Mar 2023 15:00:31 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=296618 …]]> Everyone likes to think they are fashionable, but as trends come and go it is easy to find yourself suddenly out of the loop. What was once the in thing, like skinny jeans, is now frowned upon. It’s all about baggy pants and trousers. There’s a good chance by the time this article is published the fashion trends will have changed once again. If that is the case, we just pray that the worst fashion trends in history, such as saggy pants and Ed Hardy clothing, never come back.

Fashion has certainly changed dramatically over the past two decades, with some of the most unforgivable fashion faux pas occurring during this time. That’s not to say our parents didn’t have some missteps along the way (neon spandex anyone?), but generally speaking, things haven’t been great since we hit the 00s.

To make sure you don’t commit any fashion mistakes, we have come up with the worst fashion trends in recent years that we hope never make a return. Please stop wearing backside embroidered jeans.

22 of the Worst Fashion Trends We Hope Never Come Back

1. Harem Pants

worst fashion trends

Grigvovan/Shutterstock

These baggy pants are loose around the hips and legs before tightening at the ankle. First introduced by Parisian fashion designer Paul Poiret, these pants are influenced by Middle Eastern clothing and are still worn by many today. We would prefer to see less harem pants on the market.

2. Furry Boots

Furry Boots

Peyker/Shutterstock

Snooki from Jersey Shore loved furry boots and helped make them popular for one hot minute. We don’t see the appeal of wearing an animal on your feet, but they are still a favorite among the rave crowd.

3. Belly Chains

Belly Chains

Olga Ekaterincheva/Shutterstock

For those who weren’t allowed to pierce their belly buttons, a belly button chain was the next best option. These hideous pieces of jewelry are useless and don’t really add anything to an outfit. Even Christina Aguilera, who was a fan of the belly chain, couldn’t help it become a top fashion trend.

4. Saggy Pants

Saggy Pants

Page Light Studios/Shutterstock

Synonymous with rappers, saggy pants first became a thing in the 90s before exploding in the 00s with the likes of pop stars Justin Bieber and Justin Timberlake helping make this fashion trend a success.

Worn below the waist to show off a man’s underwear, this trend was so widespread it resulted in some schools banning students from wearing their pants low.

5. Backside Embroidered Pants

Backside Embroidered Pants

Madi teVelde/YouTube

This is a no from us here at the Next Luxury offices. Popular in the early 00s, pants and shorts with embroidered designs and words on the ass were everywhere, with many celebs caught wearing this style of pants in public.

They featured designs like butterflies and flowers along with messages such as “I Love Boys” and “Juicy,” and were loved by the Jersey Shore crowd. A great way to express your personality, these pants are unsightly and one of the worst fashion trends in recent memory.

6. Happy Pants

Happy Pants

Nicole Zeisler/YouTube

MC Hammer was a big fan of happy pants. This 90s fashion disaster is basically a wide-legged pant that comes in a kaleidoscope of colors.

Happy pants were actually fashionable for much longer than they should have been, first originating in the 80s, hitting their peak in the 90s, and still hanging on for dear life in the 00s.

7. Shutter Shades

Shutter Shades

TierneyMJ/Shutterstock

Rising to popularity in the 80s, shutter shades had a renaissance in the 00s when Kanye West wore a pair in the music video for “Stronger.” The sunglasses are not practical in the slightest, with the cheap plastic shades not only hampering your vision but also failing to protect you from the sun.

8. Popcorn Shirts

Popcorn Shirts

Adele Celeste TV/Shutterstock

If you grew up in the 90s you might have owned a popcorn shirt. Made from very thin materials resembling popcorn kernels, these tops are up there with the puffy shirt from Seinfeld when it comes to horrible-looking clothing.

They looked super tiny until you put them on, that’s when they would expand to fit your body. This led them to be marked as “one-size-fits-all,” although that wasn’t exactly the reality.

9. Boot Cut Jeans

Boot Cut Jeans

The Latest/YouTube

Boot cut jeans are the modern version of flares. While they don’t flare out as much as their 60s counterparts, these jeans are reminiscent of the era of free love. While some still think they are fashionable, we disagree, but they are better than wearing an actual pair of flares that’s for sure.

10. Ed Hardy

Ed Hardy clothing

THE CASUAL/YouTube

Tattoo artist Don Ed Hardy was ahead of the game. The talented artist, heavily influenced by Sailor Jerry Collins, became one of the top earners during the 80s and 90s and turned his art into fashion in 2002 when he licensed his designs. It didn’t take long for Ed Hardy clothing to catch fire and soon everybody in the fashion world took notice, with many celebrities snapped wearing Ed Hardy.

While the brand was a big seller for many years (and to be honest, still does well), it didn’t take long for people to start trashing it. The large, colorful, over-the-top designs are offensive to the eyes and Ed Hardy soon became associated with muscled gym junkies.

11. Lace Up Jeans

Lace Up Jeans

RAVEN ELYSE/YouTube

As the name suggests, these 00s jeans had to be laced up from the front. Instead of a button or clasp to keep the jeans in place, this style of denim used laces that the wearer would need to tie up to keep the jeans in place. Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton were fans, but due to the fidgety nature of the laces and the gimmicky look of the jeans, they quickly became obsolete.

12. Bathing Suit Dress

Bathing Suit Dresses

Everett Collection/Shutterstock

This item of clothing does exactly what it says on the label. It’s a bathing suit that also works as a dress. We can see the ease of having this two-in-one outfit, as you can take a dip, dry off, then head to the pub, but it’s just as easy to have another set of clothes ready to go. This trend is one that still exists today, although you don’t see too many people wearing bathing suit dresses when out and about, for obvious reasons.

13. Corsets

beige corset

AnnaGross/Shutterstock

Originating in Italy, corsets became all the rage in Paris during the 1500s. The tight undergarment was worn beneath a woman’s clothing and used to flatten the stomach and enhance the breasts. For some reason, in the 00s, it became fashionable to wear a corset over your clothes. Why? We don’t know, but it wasn’t a good look and thankfully is hardly seen these days.

14. Von Dutch

Von Dutch brand

sylv1rob1/Shutterstock

Von Dutch is another gaudy fashion brand that was everywhere in the 00s. Paris Hilton, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears were just some of the celebrities who were snapped wearing this horrible designer brand. Its fast rise to the top of the fashion tree was quickly cut down due to oversaturation and high-end fashion looking down on Von Dutch.

The brand has had a resurgence in recent years thanks to the hip-hop community and several influencers making big money deals with Von Dutch, but hopefully this will be short-lived and Von Dutch will be relegated to the sale racks sooner rather than later.

15. Denim Shorts With Exposed Pockets

Denim Shorts With Exposed Pockets

Marko Marcello/Shutterstock

This one just doesn’t make sense. Why would you want people to see the inside of your pockets? Apparently, it was meant to make jean shorts look sexier, but as anyone who has seen someone wearing denim shorts with the pockets exposed knows, it’s not a good look.

16. Crocs

Crocs footwear

photo-lime/Shutterstock

This one is sure to upset some people, but Crocs are horrible. There, we said it. Despite becoming fashionable in the past decade and one of the biggest selling forms of footwear in the world, we still can’t support the wearing of Crocs. These clunky alternatives to slides and flip-flops are extremely ugly and are one fashion accessory we wish never existed.

17. Leather Trench Coats

Leather Trench Coats

Leo Stock Pix/Shutterstock

Made famous by the Backstreet Boys and Keanu Reeves in the Matrix, leather trench coats are a no-no these days. Hot and heavy, they make you look like a goth and don’t have any place in modern fashion. Let’s not forget the Columbine killers also wore black leather trench coats, which should be all the urging you need to never wear one of these again.

18. Leg Warmers

Leg Warmers

Milan Ilic Photographer/Shutterstock

Popular in the 80s, leg warmers are worn over leggings to keep a person’s lower legs warm. Made from a variety of different materials and often coming in bright colors and featuring interesting designs, they are also hideous and have thankfully gone the way of the dodo.

19. Poodle Skirts

hop girl in a poodle skirt

Microfile.org/Shutterstock

Fashion started to become big in the 50s, although we don’t think the poodle skirt was one of the reasons why. Popular with young girls, these skirts featured designs of poodles on them. The poodles were usually embroidered onto the skirt and are now only found in vintage stores.

20. Shoulder Pads

Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein dress

Everett Collection/Shutterstock

They look ugly, but shoulder pads served a purpose during the 80s and 90s. Women were finally being allowed to make an impact in male-dominated offices and the power suit became a thing. Many of these women’s suits came with shoulder pads that were meant to give an impression of authority and strength.

They might have done the trick 40 years ago, but today shoulder pads look clumsy and obtrusive and are a big no no when it comes to modern fashion.

21. Giant Sunglasses

Giant Sunglasses

Olga Donchuk/Shutterstock

Just no. Sported by every famous person at some stage in the mid-00s, this form of eyewear has not aged well. Due to the size of the sunglasses, they often didn’t fit a person’s face and looked strange, often making beautiful people look less than desirable.

22. Patterned Tights

Patterned Tights

Oleg Elkov/Shutterstock

You still see these on occasion, but thankfully they pretty much died out in the 60s around the same time Woodstock ended and the summer of free love became a distant memory. Patterned tights might have a place in the gym, but not when the designs are likely to cause seizures for people who stare at them too long.

Pinstripe Suits Are Back With a Bang – Here’s Why You Should Ride the Trend! https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/pinstripe-suits-are-back/ Tue, 10 Jan 2023 15:30:02 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=291455 …]]> I hope it’s not news when I say that pinstripe suits are back and are no longer a reserved banker’s outfit. There used to be a time when they were associated with an “ultra” formal look specifically suitable for a handful of professions.

But that’s no longer the case. Pinstripes have adapted themselves to be one of the most impactful outfits in every man’s wardrobe. And here’s why they deserve your attention.

Exude Power and Confidence

There’s probably no other outfit that can match the kind of power vibes a pinstripe suit has to offer. Pinstripes bring a sense of elegance to the table that’s second to none.

If you put some thought into choosing the right one based on your personality, a pinstripe suit can easily set you apart from the crowd no matter the event.

If you ever had to make a statement, a pinstripe suit is your best bet.

pinstripe suits are back

Versatility and the Perfect-for-Everyone Element!

The combination of elegance and versatility is a very rare one. And pinstripe suit is one of the few men’s outfits that offer this combination.

While it can be the most powerful outfit in your wardrobe, it can also be surprisingly versatile when complementing your personality.

The right pinstripe match can make a shorter man look taller, and it can also make you look slimmer if you need to. You just need to be thoughtful with the selection of the stripe pattern of your suit.

Stripes that are spaced out are perfect for shorter men. But if you want to get a slimmer look, going with one with tightly-placed stripes would be a better option.

Whatever your needs, there is a pinstripe suit that fits the bill.

Easy to Accessorize

A pinstripe suit is one of the easiest outfits to accessorize, and yet it can surprisingly still make you look the best-dressed man in the room.

Since it’s a powerful outfit by itself, you don’t need to add too much to it. In fact, less is more with the pinstripe.

A simple tie that has stripes that contrast the stripes of your suit, the usual classic black shoes, and a plain shirt without a strong color, and you’re set for a perfect formal yet sharp look.

You can wear any watch you want but go with a thinner, metal one if you’re not sure.

Man in blue pinstripe suit from Flexsuits. Three piece suit

No Longer the Formal Favorite!

A pinstripe suit is a purely formal outfit. Or so you thought. Well, with the kind of variations it boasts in its current form, you can totally tone it down to make it a great not-so-formal outfit as well.

Black-tie events, weddings, and perhaps even a party. A pinstripe can fly pretty much everywhere these days.

Sure, you do have to be willing to tweak things a bit but that’s not asking much for a pinstripe. It’s still going to be just as much of a powerful outfit even in its non-formal form.

Doing away with the tie is half the job done, unless of course if you’re dressing up for a black-tie event. However, the most important thing is the color of your pinstripe suit.

Unlike the “formal” era of the pinstripe, it’s now readily available in a lot more colors than the usual boring black and grey. There’s a blue pinstripe suit and even a red pinstripe suit if you want to get a bit experimental.

Just pick a not-so-common color and the pinstripe will assure you make a statement just as easily at a non-formal event as well.

A Warning – Proceed With Caution!

So we just spent half a day writing this post praising the mighty pinstripe. But let us not be biased.

A pinstripe suit can be a double-edged sword. Remember what we told you about the pinstripe being a powerful outfit for men?

Well, its strength is also its weakness. The pinstripe can help you look your best, taking your personality to a whole new level.

But then that also makes it loud and super noticeable. And that means you won’t be able to wear the same suit often. If you do, people are going to notice that quickly and it will no longer be appreciated.

In other words, you should have a few other suits to mix things up if you want to add the power of pinstripe to your wardrobe. Don’t make the mistake of getting a pinstripe for your first couple of suits.

Reserve your pinstripe for the best events and it will return the favor by making you look your best when you need it the most.

The Best Christmas Outfit Ideas for Men https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/christmas-outfit-ideas-for-men/ Thu, 22 Dec 2022 16:00:49 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=289644 …]]> Another year is about to come to a close but before then you have to get through the festive season. Christmas is one of the biggest events on the calendar and is often a long day spent traveling between relatives’ homes while overeating, giving gifts, and trying not to be a Grinch. Even if you’re spending the day at home, that means Christmas dinner is on you, which brings with it an entirely different set of challenges. Amongst all the things you will be worrying about, the last thing you want to be bothered by is what you will be wearing. It might not seem like a big deal, but what you wear on Christmas is more important than you think. That’s why we have come up with some fantastic Christmas outfit ideas for men this festive season.

Whether you are spending lunch with estranged family members or your in-laws, having a few drinks with work colleagues, or catching up with your childhood friends to reminisce on another year, your outfit says a lot about you. While comfort is always key, Christmas is also a good time to dress up and rock something a little classier than usual. It’s also the one time of the year you can wear a loud shirt or Christmas-themed jumper, showing your personality.

The Best Christmas Outfit Ideas for Men

Before you rush out and buy that shirt you’ve been eyeing for weeks, make sure you are aware of the dress code for Christmas. While most gatherings will be low-key and relaxed, allowing you to dress down, you might get an invite to a semi-formal Christmas lunch that requires a little more thought. This is especially true if you are eating at a restaurant or pub for Christmas, which is becoming more and more common these days as people want to leave the cooking to the experts.

We want to make sure you are covered for all occasions, so below are all the different types of scenarios you might encounter, from a work Christmas party to an actual Christmas dinner, and what outfits work best for each occasion.

The Office Christmas Party

office workers celebrating winter holidays

Before we get to Christmas day, you are most likely going to attend one or two office Christmas parties beforehand. There’s a good chance you might go from work to the party, and if that’s the case, bring a nice shirt with you to the office to change into. Your trousers and shoes will be fine, but it’s nice to wear something different up top so it looks like you’ve made the effort.

If you wear a suit and tie most days, ditch the tie and suit jacket and replace it with a nice shirt and a Harrington jacket. This is classy without being too casual. If you have time to change your pants, a clean pair of slacks or pleated trousers are a great option. Finish off with a pair of loafers or black dress shoes and you’ll look smart without sacrificing your style.

The Black Tie Christmas Party

successful business people drinking champagne

Now it’s highly unlikely you’ll be invited to a formal Christmas party, but on the off-chance, you work for a big organization that goes all out for Christmas, you want to be prepared. Most people own a black suit and tie, so this isn’t a hard outfit to prepare for, but if it’s your partner’s work function and you don’t wear suits in your everyday life, don’t fret.

Hiring is out of the question (a waste of money), so your next best bet is to mix and match the pieces in your wardrobe. A nice pair of dark pants (blue or black) paired with a white shirt and dinner jacket do the trick. You’ve probably got a black tie lying around somewhere too. Then you just need some nice dress shoes, such as a pair of Oxfords, and you’re good to go.

If you want you can splash the cash on a nice dinner jacket or even go the whole hog and get yourself a suit, but it really isn’t necessary. You more than likely have the right ingredients in your wardrobe, it’s just a matter of bringing them all together successfully.

The Themed Christmas Party
group of friends celebrating Christmas at home

People love a theme and Christmas is one of the biggest. It’s also one of the easiest to dress for. Most Christmas-themed parties require you to wear festive-colored clothing, which is usually anything red, green, gold, or silver. It’s also the one time of the year you can wear that funny Christmas knit you’ve been wanting to show off all year. These days Christmas knits aren’t just colorful creations or ugly Christmas sweaters with reindeer that say “Merry Christmas,” just about every movie or TV show has a Christmas-themed jumper, while everything from alcohol brands to rude jokes can be found emblazoned on these once-a-year clothing options.

As far as the rest of your festive outfit goes, you can go semi-formal with a pair of trousers and brown shoes, or more casual with jeans and sneakers. It all depends on the party and the theme and how casual things are.

The Christmas Eve Catch-Up With Mates

businessman Christmas party in the office

The night before Christmas often involves more heavy drinking than the actual day itself. It’s a great time to see your friends and let off some steam before the big day, although it’s best if you limit yourself to just a few pints. There’s nothing worse than being woken up by the kids early on Christmas morning with a raging hangover.

As this is usually a fairly casual meet-up, most likely down your local, the classic t-shirt and jeans combo works best. Pair your favorite denim with a white tee and you are good to go. Just remember that skinny jeans are out and the relaxed fit is back. You don’t want to be making any fashion mistakes around your mates who are sure to let you know about it. While a white t-shirt works best, as it goes with anything, feel free to chuck on any other type of t-shirt you might feel like rocking. Band tees and those with large graphics are also back in vogue.

It’s most likely cold so another layer is a must, even if you just bring it with you. A sweater or hoodie works, but we recommend a jacket. This can be anything from a bomber jacket to a Harrington jacket and everything in between. Just as long as it keeps you warm. Casual shoes like Vans or white sneakers are a solid choice, but you can spruce things up with a pair of boots if you feel that way too.

The Christmas Morning Unwrapping Presents

young man wearing santa hat holding Christmas gift

Now depending on how old you are and your family situation will have a big impact on what you wear first thing in the morning. If you’re an adult living out of home with friends, a partner, or solo, you are probably going to be sleeping off the hangover from the night before. This means rolling out of bed mid-morning, taking a shower, throwing on your outfit for the day, and heading out the door for the first round of Christmas catch-ups with relatives.

If you have kids you know a sleep-in won’t be happening. You’ll most likely be woken at some ungodly hour and have to head down to the tree and unwrap the presents. If this is the case, walking out in your jocks isn’t what anybody needs to see, especially if the in-laws are staying over. A nice pair of pajamas will do the trick while you watch the kid’s eyes light up as they burn through opening their gifts. There are so many different types of PJs on the market, but a nice striped pair with neutral colors is always a good look. And if you really love Christmas, there are plenty of Xmas-themed PJs on the market you can wear for that one day of the year.

The Lunch With Relatives

family having christmas lunch at home

Christmas lunch is all about stuffing your face as much as possible and avoiding awkward relationship talk with your relatives who all wonder why you are still single. It gives you plenty of options when it comes to Christmas clothes, but the two main things that come to mind are comfort and style. You are going to be eating yourself silly, so you want clothes that aren’t too tight and will allow for some room around the waist. But you don’t want to look like a complete slob either in track pants and a sweater.

The middle ground is a flexible pair of trousers, but if you really want to push the boat out when it comes to relaxation, there are now joggers and sweatpants that resemble jeans and trousers. Whack a pair of those on with a cashmere turtleneck or colorful knit number and nobody will be none the wiser. If you’re inside and it’s a little too hot for knitwear, a polo is another great option. It’s smart without being formal and goes with anything. When it comes to shoes, sneakers or loafers are best, but a solid dress shoe or boot also works. Leave the slides at home.

If you are eating out, say at a pub or restaurant, you might want to wear a nice pair of slacks or dark denim jeans with a shirt or knit sweater to create a more sophisticated vibe that will match the place you going to eat. The pub allows you to be more casual with your attire, while lunch at a restaurant means shirt and pants.

The Christmas Day Evening Drinks

people are celebrating holiday in modern office

Depending on your family situation, you most likely spend lunch at one set of relatives and dinner at the other. But Christmas day evening is also often a time when you catch up with close friends to wind down after a long day of family disputes and screaming kids. It’s something younger people organize more than those with kids, but it’s also a time when an outfit change is acceptable.

Most will come straight from a previous engagement and be wearing what they started the day with, but if you are coming from home or have time to change, you can shed your Christmas sweater or nice polo or shirt in favor of something much more casual. This is the one-time track pants and a sweatshirt are acceptable and you don’t have to be too concerned with making an impression. Obviously, you still want to look decent, but when having a few quiet ones with your mates, your outfit isn’t the priority. It’s more about comfort and hiding your belly after devouring three plates of turkey and sides.

The Boxing Day Outfit

man holding glass of champagne and having phone call during Christmas party

Boxing Day should be a day of rest, but for many, it’s another day of family catch-ups and parties. The best part about the day is that it’s usually less chaotic than Christmas day and means you can dress down. Looking good is still a priority, but you can wear a more casual outfit. A crewneck with jeans is fine, and if you happen to live in a warmer climate, shorts are more than acceptable, just make sure they aren’t too short.

Conclusion

Like any other day of the year, Christmas shouldn’t be any different. While it does allow you to dress in Christmas colors or wear an ugly sweater, that isn’t necessary. The main thing is you feel comfortable with what you are wearing. While we have made plenty of suggestions for smart casual looks, if you want to wear joggers and a sweatshirt to Christmas dinner with your relatives you go right ahead. It is Christmas after all.

The Top Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas for Men https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/thanksgiving-outfit-ideas-for-men/ Thu, 17 Nov 2022 20:00:03 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=286461 …]]> Thanksgiving is almost upon us for another year. It’s a time of the year when you can connect with your family while stuffing your face with turkey and watching football. Thanksgiving can also be a stressful time, especially if you are hosting. Being in charge of preparing the food, organizing the seating arrangements so there are no arguments, and generally making sure everything runs smoothly can be a challenge. It can leave you so busy that you don’t have any time to sort your Thanksgiving outfit. Nobody wants to see you wearing dirty sweatpants and a white t-shirt covered in stuffing. You want to look good so you feel good and give off a confident vibe that Thanksgiving dinner is under control (even if it’s not).

To help you out we’ve come up with some awesome Thanksgiving outfit ideas for men. We want you to look your best so everyone understands the effort you have gone to when it comes to organizing the big day. Or if you’ve got no responsibilities and are visiting another family member’s home for Thanksgiving dinner, then these outfit ideas will make sure everyone can see you’ve at least made an effort, even if you look super casual in your fit.

The Top Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas for Men

First things first, what type of Thanksgiving dinner are you attending? This might seem obvious, but sometimes people like to put on proper dinner parties that require a dress code. It could also be a theme party, so you don’t want to rock up in jeans and a tee when it’s meant to be formal or fancy dress.

The location also plays a factor. If you are eating outside you have to take into account the weather conditions. You may need a decent outdoor jacket or a light fleece. Conversely, if it’s cold outside and everyone is huddled around the fire in the lounge room, you won’t need a heavy coat.

To help you on your quest of looking good this Thanksgiving, we have outlined some great outfit ideas below that are sure to be a hit.

T-Shirt and Jeans

Is there a better combo than this? Men have been wearing tees with jeans since fashion became a thing. This is the type of outfit that is acceptable anywhere and everywhere. When it comes to jeans, skinny is out and baggy is in. That’s right, long, baggy jeans that hang off your waist are back in fashion. It’s like the 90s have come around again. But you don’t have to reach into the depths of your closet and pull out an old pair of Tommy Hilfiger baggy jeans that you wore as a teenager. Relaxed or straight-fit jeans are also acceptable. And the color is of no concern either, so you can wear black, blue, or whatever other color takes your fancy.

When it comes to your choice of t-shirt, white is always the best. A crisp white shirt with black or blue denim jeans is always a winner. If you want to brighten things up, add a splash of color with a red or green tee. Even graphic t-shirts work well. Just make sure they don’t have any offensive images that might upset grandma.

Polo and Jeans

Polo and Jeans

Give yourself a slightly preppy look by switching out a t-shirt for a polo. It has the same impact but adds a touch more class to your outfit. You really can’t go wrong with a polo and there are so many great brands out there. You can go for the classic Ralph Lauren polo made famous by Wall Street executives in the 80s or opt for something from the likes of Allsaint, Lyle & Scott, Fred Perry, Lacoste, or Cos.

Flannel Shirt and Chinos

Flannel Shirt and Chinos

Winter is coming so you might want an outfit that will keep you warm while still making you look hot. Nothing says “I’m ready for the cold but still have style” like a cozy flannel shirt with a pair of chinos. This is a very flexible outfit that works for Thanksgiving lunch at your parent’s and then a Thanksgiving party at your mate’s in the evening.

Flannel shirts come in a range of colors and styles and all are acceptable. Chinos are the same, but we recommend a nice beige or cream-colored pair to offset the color of the flannel shirt.

Shirt and Pants

Dress Shirt And Pants All Black Outfits Mens Styles

If formal is the vibe, a crisp collared shirt and fitted pair of pants is what the doctor orders. Skip a white shirt, as you’ll look like you’re rocking up to a funeral. Go for something with stripes or checks to add some color to your fit. You can go long or short sleeve, depending on the weather, but long is the preferred option. As for the pants, a nice pair of black or blue slacks is in order. Jeans are also fine if it’s more of a laidback dinner but you still want to impress with a shirt.

This is the type of outfit combination that works well when meeting your partner’s parents. It shows that you have some dress sense and aren’t a complete dropkick.

Blazer and Jeans

Nothing says classy but still slightly casual than wearing jeans with a blazer. A blazer over a shirt or tee adds another layer to your outfit. It’s classy without being over the top, with the jeans bringing a casual feel. Grab yourself a double-breasted blazer, but make sure it’s tailored. There is nothing worse than someone wearing a blazer that’s too big or too small. It’s very noticeable and not flattering in any.

You can also switch your blazer for a sweater. This gives your outfit a more relaxed vibe. You can wear a cozy sweater that fits well or an oversized sweater, which is all the rage these days.

Suit

man wearing suit

Now, this outfit is only necessary if you are attending some kind of gala Thanksgiving event or dinner is a formal occasion. Any other occasion and you’ll look out of place and start to get self-conscious. If a suit is the outfit of choice, make sure it’s tailored and fits well. Black is the classic default, but navy blue, grey, or even red are great options for those who want to mix things up.

A white shirt is easy and goes with all suit colors, but feel free to mix things up if you have a colored or striped shirt that matches your suit. A tie isn’t always necessary, but if you are wearing one, make sure it’s solid and a good size. Skinny ties are out.

What About Shoes?

The shoes maketh the man, or so the saying goes. You have plenty of options when it comes to footwear, but choosing the right type of shoe to match your outfit is important. Lace-up the wrong type of shoe and you could put your entire outfit at risk. To help you out, here’s a short list of shoe types and the outfits they work best with. As you will see, shoes are quite versatile and can be worn with many different outfit combinations.

Sneakers – A nice pair of white kicks is all you need when rocking a t-shirt and jeans. Sneakers also go well with a polo/shirt and jeans combo. To be honest, you can wear sneakers with every outfit mentioned (yes, even a suit), but they are much better suited to casual occasions.

BootsChelsea boots, Chukka boots, or combat boots are all great options when wearing anything with jeans or pants. They create a more formal look without going over the top. A dress or Wingtip boot goes well with a suit.

Lace-ups – This can range from an Oxford to a Derby shoe. If Thanksgiving dinner involves meeting your partner’s parents or is an occasion where you’ll be drinking adult drinks (wine or cocktails), grab a pair of lace-ups. There are many different styles so choose one that appeals to you. If you’re wearing a suit, this is your go-to option.

Slip-ons – No, not slides. We mean something more fashionable like a loafer or moccasin. Ideal for the blazer and jeans look but also goes well with any outfit that requires a collar.

What Not To Wear

Yes, there are certain items of clothing that just shouldn’t be worn when it comes to Thanksgiving. While many of them are obvious, like a jumpsuit or Halloween costume, there are some that might seem fine but really aren’t. These are the clothes and accessories to stay away from this Thanksgiving day.

Headwear of any sort – It doesn’t matter what the weather is like, stay away from headwear. Cowboy hats, headbands, bandannas, and the like are all better left at home. While caps and beanies are appropriate for certain occasions, if you’re sitting down for a meal it’s best to leave your head free and let your hair flow.

Shorts – It’s more than likely going to be chilly when Thanksgiving occurs (it is Fall), but even if the sun is out, keep your legs to yourself. Shorts are meant to be worn when it’s hot, and they certainly don’t make a good impression at a dinner party.

Tight clothing – Eating and drinking all day is sure to cause you to bloat, so wearing anything constrictive is not ideal. You don’t want to be the one undoing the top button on your jeans.

Sweatpants – Unless you plan on spending the day at home on the couch, sweatpants are a big no. They are the ultimate piece of casual clothing. It’s never a good look when everyone else is well-dressed and you rock up in sweats.

Slides – No. Slides are only appropriate when dossing around at home or going to the beach. That’s it. Nobody wants to see your crusty toenails.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, Thanksgiving is a time of celebration. It doesn’t get any better than eating and drinking with your family and close friends. When it comes to fashion, you want to wear something that makes you feel good and reflects the occasion. Hopefully, you can take inspiration from our ideas and construct the ultimate Thanksgiving outfit that will wow everyone.
