The pop sensation, known for her dynamic music and vibrant persona, has adorned her body with a collection of tattoos that hold significant meaning. From delicate designs to bold statements, this article looks at 10 Katy Perry tattoos that reflect various facets of her life.

One of her most recognized and famous tattoos is the strawberry on her ankle, a symbol of her breakthrough single “I Kissed a Girl.” This emblematic ink embodies her daring spirit and refusal to conform to norms. Another cherished tattoo is the Sanskrit word “Anuugacchati Pravaha,” meaning “Go with the flow.” Positioned on her arm, it serves as a constant reminder to embrace life’s journey without resistance.

Katy’s tattoos often embody connections to loved ones, such as the peppermint on her ankle as a tribute to her album Teenage Dream. These intricate artworks on her body not only tell her story but also showcase her growth, resilience, and the profound moments that have shaped her into the artist and individual she is today.

Ink Chronicles: Exploring the Meaning Behind 10 Katy Perry Tattoos

1. Sanskrit Tattoo

As mentioned in the opening paragraphs, Katy Perry and her ex-husband Russell Brand both got matching tattoos to celebrate their engagement. Inked in the ancient Indian language on the inside of their right biceps, the tattoo reads “Anuugacchati Pravaha,” which translates to “Go with the flow.”

West Ham United fan Russell Brand proposed to Perry while the two were on holiday in Jaipur, India, in December 2009. They returned to India less than a year later in October 2010 and were married in a traditional Hindu ceremony. Sadly it wasn’t happily ever after, with the two filing divorce papers in January 2012.

2. “XLIX” Tattoo

In 2015, Super Bowl XLIX was held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. In the match, the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in one of the all-time classic Super Bowls. The halftime entertainment wasn’t bad either, with Katy Perry wowing the 70,000+ in attendance.

To celebrate her performance, Perry got the Roman numerals “XLIX” (standing for 49) inked on the inside of her right ring finger. She got the tattoo just a few hours after taking the stage where she played a medley of her hits, including “Roar,” “Teenage Dream,” “California Gurls,” and “I Kissed a Girl” with Lenny Kravitz.

Getting tattoos after gigs has become the norm for Perry, who often gets ink with her team to celebrate the end of a successful tour.

3. Lotus Flower Tattoo

Of all her tattoos, this is one Katy Perry has not spoken about. It’s believed she got the outline of a Lotus flower on her right wrist in 2012. According to Byride, lotus flower tattoos “represent rising above temptation and becoming a better person.”

4. “Jesus” Tattoo

katy-perry-tattoos-image-4

The first tattoo Katy Perry ever got inked was the word “Jesus” on her left wrist. Written in cursive font, Perry got the tattoo not long after she turned 18. Growing up in a religious family—both her parents are evangelical ministers—it’s no surprise Petty got a tattoo referencing her faith.

Perry opened up about her beliefs in a 2019 interview with Paper. Suffering from situational depression after her 2017 album Witness received less than stellar reviews, she attended a week-long therapy program at Hoffman Process. “I’ve never felt closer to God,” she explained. “I’ve never felt so much release and relief.”

5. Strawberry Tattoo

katy-perry-tattoos-image-5

On the inside of Katy Perry’s left ankle is a cute tattoo of a smiling strawberry. This is one of several cartoon-style tattoos Perry has on her body. The “Firework” singer took to Twitter in July of 2009 to let her fans know she was “Thinking bout getting my 2nd tattoo 2night! I wanna get a cartoon-ish strawberry to celebrate this amazeballs past 15 months…”

Soon after she got the tattoo of one of her favorite fruits. Strawberries have been a big part of Perry’s musical career, often appearing as stage props on her tours or as part of her costumes.

6. Peppermint Tattoo

katy-perry-tattoos-image-6

Katy Perry got a smiling tattoo of a peppermint on her right ankle to match the strawberry on her left. Steal Her Style reports that the smiling peppermint tattoo inked in November 2011, highlights her candy-themed Teenage Dream album. The smiling strawberry tattoo is said to reference her One of the Boys album.

As previously mentioned, Perry and her crew often get tattoos at the end of each tour. It’s believed this was the case with the peppermint tattoo that many of the touring party got along with Perry. Steal the Style reports that famous tattooist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy was flown out by Perry to ink the peppermint tattoo on her and her crew.

7. Hello Kitty Tattoo

A big fan of the fictional character Hello Kitty, Perry was ecstatic when she found out they shared the same star sign. Both are Scorpios, with Perry born on October 25 while Hello Kitty came to life on November 1.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Hello Kitty, Perry got a tattoo of the feline on her finger on October 30, 2014.

8. Cherry Blossom Tattoo

Tattoo Designs Ideas/YouTube

Adding to her collection of cartoon-style tattoos is this tatt of a cherry blossom that’s also found on Perry’s right ankle. Katy Perry got the ink in November 2013. Nobody is quite sure of the meaning behind the colorful tattoo, but another of her ex-partners, John Mayer, also has a similar tattoo design on his wrist, leading many to believe the two got the tattoos together.

9. Prism Tattoo

After touring the world promoting and performing songs off her Prism album, Perry got this tattoo to commemorate the tour. Another ankle tattoo—this one on her left ankle—the prism tattoo features a smiling face and a rainbow color scheme.

Like the majority of her tattoos, this one was inked by Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy. He accompanied Perry on tour for several weeks, tattooing Perry and her crew. “I always bring Bang Bang in for my most special tattoos—the ones my touring team and I get at the end of a tour to commemorate another successful journey together,” Steal the Style documents. “Each time, he’s created the definitive symbol of that era of my life.”

10. Saturn Tattoo

After the completion of her “Witness Tour” in 2018, Perry and many of her crew got this tattoo of Saturn inked on their body. Changing things up, Perry flew out Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Dr. Woo to Sydney instead of using her usual tattooist Bang Bang.

The tattoo is very different from the cartoon artwork of Bang Bang and features the planet Saturn as an eye in an intricate design. Taking to Instagram to share the tattoo, Perry wrote; “The end of tour tattoo tradition continues with #4 by the gentle precisionist @_dr_woo_ The planet in the middle is Saturn as this journey has taught me many lessons with a few tears along the way BUT I am happy to report a sense of real resilience as we wrap. I share this insignia with 45 other tour mates and moreover an incredible year of memories with over 100 beautiful & kind humans and a numerous amount of gracious attendees #2moretogo #WitnessTheTour #Resilient 👁❤

Believed to be one of the first tattoos Brad Pitt ever got, “Absurdities de I’ Existence” is a French saying that translates to “Life is absurd.” The Seven actor got the ink in a small script on his left forearm that’s only viewable when he is wearing a short sleeve shirt.

2. The Ice Man Tattoo

Right near his “Absurdities de I’ Existence” tattoo, Pitt got the outline of Ötzi the Iceman tattooed. Also known as the Frozen Fritz, Ötzi the Iceman is the oldest mummy in the world, believed to have been alive sometime between 3350 and 3105 BC. His body was found in the Alps on the border of Austria and Italy in 1991 by two German tourists.

Pitt has never revealed why he got the tattoo but underneath the image of the Iceman he is the word “Invictus,” which means “unconquered,” so maybe he got the ink as a form of defiance that he will never be brought down by the negativity of others. Or maybe he’s just a history buff?

3. Skull and Rhinoceros Tattoos

Sparks flew between the pair and Pitt soon divorced Anitsion and hooked up with Jolie, with the two eventually becoming husband and wife and having six together, three adopted and three naturally conceived.

But like so many Hollywood romances, it all ended in tears when the two divorced in 2019. But before that happened Pitt got Jolie’s birthday tattooed on his lower abdomen.

Pitt got Jolie’s birthday, June 4, 1975, inked as numbers (6/4/75) in Khmer, the native language of Cambodia, which is the homeland of Jolie’s first child, Maddox. He no longer has this tattoo, getting it lasered off once the two broke up.

This short poem is etched onto the skin on Pitt’s right forearm. Written in ancient script, the tattoo is the English translation of a text by Jalal al-Din Mohammad ibn Balkhi, otherwise known as the famous Turkish wordsmith Rumi. 8. Angelina Scribble Tattoo

Another reminder of his time with Jolie is this tattoo on Pitt’s back. At first thought to be a map of New Orleans, this turned out to be the wrong conclusion. While it looks like a bunch of random lines drawn on the Interview With a Vampire’s back, they were actually designed by Jolie, which is why Pitt had them inked on his body.

1. Lion Face Tattoo

Tattoo World/YouTube

The first tattoo Cara Delevingne ever got was of a lion’s face back in 2013. Taking to Instagram to show off her new ink, the star of Suicide Squad posted a picture of her right index finger featuring a lion tattooed by celebrity tattooist Keith Scott “Bang Bang” McCurdy. Accompanying the image was the caption; “My first tattoo!! Lions rule! Thank you so much @bangbangnyc @badgalriri”

Delevingne visited tattoo artist Bang Bang after he was recommended by her good friend Rihanna, who has been inked by the tattooist on several occasions. She’s not the only one, with Bang Bang having inked the likes of Justin Bieber, Rita Ora, Chris Brown, Nicole Scherzinger, and Selena Gomez.

As reported by Pop Star Stats, Delevingne explained the reason she got the tattoo. “I’m a Leo. It’s the first tattoo I got. I grew up being fearless in everything. I just used to climb anything.” But, Cara says, “I lost that [sense of fearlessness] when I started modeling. When you work a lot and don’t really know what you want, you just do it because the work is there. I lost that inner fire, so I got the lion to bring that back in my mind.”

2. “CJD” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-2
Tattoo World/YouTube

Like so many people, Delevingne caught the tattoo bug after getting her first piece of ink. She quickly followed up the lion tattoo by getting her initials, “CJD,” tattooed on the side of her right hand. It stands for Cara Jocelyn Delevingne, which is her full name. This was another tattoo designed and inked by Bang Bang

3. “Made In England” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-3
Tattoo World/YouTube

Delevingne’s third tattoo was once again inked by Bang Bang and is a reference to her country of birth, England. On the bottom of her left foot, she got the words “Made In England” tattooed.

As reported by Body Art Guru, Delevingne had this to say about the tattoo, “You’re looked through, you’re not looked at, you are treated as a kind of mannequin. I got a tattoo saying ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ on my foot to represent that I felt like a doll for so long. Because you are just a kind of puppet, you know, entertainment. You kind of feel that you need to have no soul really, to do that job, a little bit.”

4. “XII” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-4
Tattoo World/YouTube

Delevingne has the Roman numeral XII (12) inked on the right side of her torso. The model was born on August 12, 1992, with the number representing her birthday. She also considers it her lucky number. The tattoo was inked by Daniel Tucci while Delevingne was visiting Italy.

5. “Silence” Tattoo

6. “Pandora” Tattoo

On her upper left arm is the word “Pandora.” This is a tribute to her mother, whose name, you guessed it, is Pandora.

7. Sak Yant Tattoo

Sak Yant tattoos are a form of tattoo that originated in Southeast Asia. They are different from modern ink in that they are applied with a bamboo needle. These intricate tattoos have many different meanings but are generally designed as symbols that offer protection from evil deities and can enhance your luck.

Delevingne has a Sak Yant tattoo on her upper back just below her neck although there is no information regarding its meaning. She got a recent addition to the tattoo, getting a set of eyes inked on the nape of her neck just above the Sak Yant tattoo.

8. “Bacon…” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-8
Tattoo World/YouTube

Feet tattoos are known to be painful, but that hasn’t stopped Delevingne from getting them. Along with “Made In England” on the bottom of her right foot, the model has “Bacon…” inked on the bottom of her left foot.

“The tattoo was inspired by my love for bacon, obviously,” she told The Cut. “I think of bacon every five seconds. It’s the meatiness. I love the salt. Bacon is love to me. Bacon will always love me back. It’s unconditional.”

9. Diamond Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-9
Tattoo World/YouTube

While often covered by her hair, when she wears it up you can see the diamond tattoo Delevingne has inside her right ear. According to Near Tattoos, a diamond tatt “symbolizes strength, beauty, purity, and unbreakable character.”

You will also notice several small stars Delevingne has inked around her ear. These form the constellation known as the Southern Cross.

10. Heart Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-10

13. Coat of Arms Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-13
Tattoo World/YouTube

Delevingne has not spoken about this tattoo, which is of a coat of arms with the letter “D” inked inside it. It could be the coat of arms of her family name or just a design she liked. Found on her left ribcage, the tattoo was inked by famed tattoo artist Dr. Woo.

Just above the coat of arms are five white dots which are said to represent members of her immediate family.

14. “Breath Deep” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-14
Tattoo World/YouTube

In 2014 Delevingne caught up with Bang Bang once again for another tattoo. This time she got the words “Breath Deep” inked on her right arm. This is another tattoo Delevingne hasn’t spoken about, although it does stand out due to the fact that it was tattooed using white ink and not black like most tattoos on her body.

15. “Don’t Worry Be Happy” Tattoo

Don’t Worry Be Happy” was a song by Bobby McFerrin released in 1988 that became the first acapella song to top the Billboard Hot 100. The song is about enjoying life and not worrying about things, something that must have resonated with Delevingne as she got the title of the song (which is also the chorus) inked below her breasts.

Under her right breast is “don’t worry” and under her left breast is “be happy.” Both are written in cursive and are an interesting addition to Delevingne’s collection of tattoos.

16. White Dove Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-16
Tattoo World/YouTube

This is another small tattoo found on the inside of Delevingne’s left index finger. Inked in white, the design is of a dove which “is symbolic of peace and innocence” according to Tattoos With Meaning.

17. “AC” Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-17
Tattoo World/YouTube

They say you should never get your partner’s name tattooed, so Delevingne went for the initials. “AC” stands for Annie Clark, the real name of musician St. Vincent, who Delevingne dated. The two were an item between June 2015 and September 2016 before going their separate ways.

Thankfully the tattoo is small and in a hard-to-see place on the inside of her left pinky finger.

18. Snake Skeleton Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-18
Tattoo World/YouTube

Tattooist Dr. Woo inked a snake skeleton that slithers along Delevingne’s left hand. She got the ink sometime in 2016 not long after her ex St. Vincent was spotted with Kristen Stewart.

Speaking to The Sun about the tattoo, she had this to say; “At the end of it it says feral because I think I am, and it’s about reinvention, shedding of old skin, new beginnings, new life.”

19. “A” Tattoo

Not content with getting ex-partner St. Vincent’s initials tattooed on her body, Delevingne also got a tribute to another former girlfriend. On her ribcage near her coat of arms tattoo, Delevingne got a red letter “A” inked. This stands for her girlfriend of two years Ashley Benson, with the two dating from June 2019 until April 2020.

20. Geometric Flower Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-20
Tattoo World/YouTube

Only visible when her head is shaved, this tattoo of a geometric flower is on the back of Delevingne’s skull. It was designed by hairstylist Mara Roszak.

21. “Solemate” Tattoo

Kaia Gerber and Cara Delevingne got matching “Solemate” tattoos on the inside of their feet. Gerber is an American model and actress and a good friend of Delevingne.

22. Red Rose Tattoo

Speaking of matching tattoos, Delevingne and Paris Jackson also got similar ink, with both having a red rose inked on their arm. The two got the tattoos after the Oscars in 2021.

23. Smiley Face Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-23
Tattoo World/YouTube

Delevingne’s love of foot tattoos continued when she got a smiley face tattooed on the bottom of her big toe. Unlike her other tattoos, this one was inked by an amateur, her Suicide Squad co-star Margot Robbie. The Australian is known to give her co-stars tattoos and decide to ink a smiley face on Delevingne. She talked about her work as a tattooist on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

“We did toe-mojis, we were calling them, where we’d tattoo the bottom of our toes with, like, little faces,” she said. “But, uh, the thing about tattooing the bottom of your toes is that it rubs off after a while, so we have to keep redoing them.”

24. Artwork Tattoo

In 2018, Bang Bang went to work on Delevingne again, this time coming up with something quite beautiful. He tattooed an image of a naked red-headed woman lying with a tiger in a jungle. The colored tattoo is based on artwork by Emil Lundgren and has pops of green, red, orange, black, and white.

25. Elephant Tattoo

cara-delevingne-tattoo-25
Tattoo World/YouTube

This tattoo is one that means a lot to Delevingne. It is the image of an elephant on her right forearm. The reason it is so important is that it is a reminder of her grandmother who passed away.

The largest ink on Justin Timberlake’s body is found on his back. It’s also his most personal. The tattoo is of a baby angel surrounded by a feather wing design with the word “Guardian” above the baby angel and in a scroll in cursive below the words “Of the Wicked.”

The baby angel bears the initials of Timberlake’s mother, Lynn Bomar Harness, who is his biggest supporter, while the “Guardian” script is a tribute to his twin sister who died at birth.

2. Cross Tattoo

justin-timberlake-tattoos-2

On Justin Timberlake’s upper left should is an impressive cross tattoo. While he hasn’t spoken about the Celtic cross tattoo design, Timberlake grew up in the American Bible Belt in the southern city of Memphis.

His father, Charles Randall Timberlake, was a Baptist church choir director who raised the “Cry Me a River” singer in the Christian faith. Although he grew up in and around the church, Hollowverse reports that these days Timberlake is “more spiritual than religious.” Despite his lack of Christian faith, that didn’t stop him from getting married to his wife, Jessica Biel, in an Italian church.

3. Astral Band Tattoo

Justin Timberlake is an astrology fan, so he got his astral sign of the Zodiac, Aquarius, inked around his left leg between his ankle and knee. It’s not the most attractive tattoo, but the red shading does give it a unique look.

4. NSYNC Logo Tattoo

justin-timberlake-tattoos-4
Tattoo For A Week/YouTube

It should come as no surprise that Justin Timberlake has a tattoo referencing his time in the boy band NSYNC. All members of the group got the tattoo, which is of flames colored red, with Timberlake getting his ink on his lower right leg.

5. Velvet Rope Tattoo

justin-timberlake-tattoos-5
Tattoo For A Week/YouTube

Below the flaming NSYNC logo tattoo is a velvet rope tattoo (very similar to the red carpet seen at movie premiers and award shows) that stands for the popularity the band experienced.

6. “JRT” Tattoo

justin-timberlake-tattoos-6
Tattoo For A Week/YouTube

At the front of the tattoo design are the letters “JRT,” which are Timberlake’s initials. Why people feel the need to tattoo their initials on their bodies is a mystery, but we are sure JT is a big fan of the artwork.

7. Marionette Tattoo

On the back of his lower right leg is another tattoo, this one is the image of a marionette. It’s another reference to his time in NSYNC, as fans will remember the band acting as puppets in the music videos for hit songs “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me.”

While the NSYNC logo, velvet rope, marionette, and “JRT” tattoos have much meaning for Timberlake, they aren’t of the highest quality, which is why he may be happy they are not often in plain view.

8. Chinese Symbol Tattoo

This small tattoo is on Justin Timberlake’s left leg and is the Chinese symbol for “music.” It’s obvious he got this tattoo to show his love for music.

17 Selena Gomez Tattoos: Unveiling the Artistic Story Behind Each Ink

1. Music Note Tattoo

The first tattoo Selena Gomez ever got was a small musical note on her right-hand way back in 2012. As the tattoo is tiny and nobody was quite sure what it was, Gomez revealed all when she chatted with Access Hollywood at a pre-Oscars party.

“It’s a music note,” she explained. “Everybody thought that it was a heart for some reason, but music is a big influence in my life.”

“I was named after a singer (Selena Quintanilla-Perez), I’m a singer, and a lot of other personal reasons,” Gomez continued. “So, that’s what I got.” Makes perfect sense.

2. “LXXVI” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-3
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Not long after getting her first ink, Selena Gomez got her second tattoo. On the back of her neck, she has the Roman numeral “LXXVI,” which stands for 1976. Gomez has never come out directly and talked about the tattoo, but 1976 is the year her mother, Mandy Teefey, was born, so most fans believe it is a tribute to her.

Gomez visited New York tattooist Keith Scott “Bang Bang” McCurdy, who was more than happy to ink the Only Murders in the Building star.

3. “G” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-3

While she does have several large tattoos, the majority of Selena Gomez’s ink is small designs or phrases. One of these is the letter “G” which you can see on the left side of her neck, just under her ear. The tattoo is the first letter of her younger sister Grace and a tribute to her, something Gomez revealed in an interview with Refinery29.

In that same conversation, she also talked about her first tattoo, the musical note, explaining that she “wanted something small to test the waters” and is “now (I’m) addicted.”

4. “X31” Tattoo

Another tiny tattoo, this design is of the letter “X” alongside the numbers “3” and “1.” Located on her upper left thigh, an article by Refinery29 pointed out that the tattoo is meant to signify a friend who she meet eight years before getting the ink.

5. Prayer Hands Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-5

Made famous by Drake, the image of praying hands has been around for centuries. Selena Gomez is obviously a fan of the image as she got the praying hands with a rosary tattooed on her left thigh.

Celebrity tattooist Bang Bang was once again responsible for the tattoo that Gomez first revealed on Instagram on November 24, 2019.

6. “God Who Strengthens Me” Tattoo

Down her right thigh, Selena Gomez has the phrase “God Who Strengthens Me.” This is another tattoo she got in 2012 but kept hidden for almost a year, something she told Ryan Seacrest during a 2013 radio interview. She explained that the sentence is inspired by her favorite Bible passage, Philippians 4:13, which is, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

7. “Sunshine” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-7
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Selena Gomez got the word “Sunshine” tattooed on the right side of her foot in 2016. She has never spoken about the ink work, but it was included as part of a temporary sticker pack fans could buy during her “Revival” tour. The sticker pack included all seven of her tattoos and allowed fans to see what they would look like with Gomez’s ink.

8. “Love Yourself First” Tattoo

Another tattoo inked at the famed Bang Bang Tattoo studio by its owner Bang Bang McCurdy, the words “Love Yourself First” are tattooed in Arabic on the upper right side of Selena Gomez’s back. While she hasn’t talked about the tattoo, Bang Bang did in an interview with E! News and revealed all.

“Its meaning translates to ‘Love Yourself,'” he told the news outlet. “Selena already had it written out how she wanted. The tattoo is about 4 inches and didn’t take too long, probably about 30-45 minutes. The longest part is laying it out. We played with it a bit laying it out, until we found the perfect spot.”

As for Gomez’s thoughts on the final piece? “She loved it; she flipped out!” Bang Bang said.

9. Semicolon Tattoo

There’s nothing funnier than going to your local tattoo parlor and getting matching tattoos with your mates. This is exactly what Selena Gomez did in 2017 when she and the stars of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, Alisha Boe and Tommy Dorfman, got semicolon tattoos on their wrists.

Gomez was a producer on the show and while the tattoo bonds the three together, it’s also the logo of the Semicolon Movement, an organization dedicated to increasing the awareness of mental health and suicide prevention around the world. All three are known to be advocates of this organization and have spoken about their own mental health battles.

10. “6/19/17” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-10
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Selena Gomez fans are undoubtedly aware of the significance of the date “6/19/17.” That was the date Gomez had her kidney transplant. Diagnosed with Lupus during her early 20s, Gomez suffered kidney failure in 2017 and was rushed to hospital. Thankfully actress and friend Francia Raisa (although the two aren’t as close anymore) donated one of her kidneys to help Gomez. She got the tattoo to mark the day she had the operation.

11. “1” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-11
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Another matching tattoo, both Selena Gomez and her friend Courtney Lopez have the number “1” tattooed on the right side of their torsos. The first glimpse fans had of the tattoo was when Gomez posted a photo of her and Lopez on Instagram showing off their ink.

12. “4”

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-12
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Selena Gomez and her three closest friends—Courtney Lopez, Ashley Cook, and Raquelle Stevens—got the number “4” tattooed on different parts of their bodies back in 2018. Taking to Instagram to show off the ink, Gomez also provided a caption explaining the meaning of the number “4.”

“#4 because these women have stayed by my side for 7 years,” she wrote in the caption. “4, because you are my 4 for the rest of my life. I love you ladies. You all inspire me to be better, stronger, closer to god and we have lived the most INSANE story together already. Can’t wait for 50 more!!”

13. “Rare” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-13
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

On the left side of her neck, Selena Gomez has the word “Rare” tattooed. This is the name of her third solo album released in 2020. She got the tattoo in the lead-up to the album release, with tattooist Bang Bang once again responsible for the ink.

14. Arrow Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-14
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

Selena Gomez and Julia Michaels, another close friend of Gomez, got matching arrow tattoos on their wrists in 2019. If you aren’t aware of who Michaels is, she’s a fellow singer and songwriter who has collaborated with Gomez on several songs, including “Lose You to Love Me” and “Bad Liar.”

The two got tattoos after Gomez performed with Michaels at a concert in Los Angeles, with the two dueting on the track “Anxiety.” They got the ink backstage, with tattooists London Reese and Brad Reis tattooing the duo.

While the arrows appear to be pointing in different directions, when the two are holding hands, the arrows point at each other. How cute.

15. Cross Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-15
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

On her left collarbone, Selena Gomez has a tiny cross inked. The tattoo was once again done by Bang Bang who revealed the ink on his Instagram with a video. It’s a rather simple and unintrusive tattoo and one that fits in well with the other designs on her body.

16. “Angel” Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-16
Entertainment Tonight/YouTube

Selena Gomez and good friend Nicola Peltz, who is married to Brooklyn Beckham, the son of footballing great David, got the word “Angel” tattooed in cursive font on their arms.

17. Rose Tattoo

selena-gomez-tattoos-image-17
Celeb DeLux/YouTube

The largest of all Selena Gomez’s tattoos is the pink rose at the top of her back. Inked by her favorite tattooist, Bang Bang, the rose is under the Roman numerals on her neck. The watercolor rose appears to be dripping down her back and is apparently inspired by actress and model Cara Delevigine.

“It means a couple of different things,” Gomez said on “Live with Kelly and Ryan.” “Me and Cara, one of my best friends—I was maybe 16 when I met her—she calls me Rosebud. So it’s a nickname. And I’ve always wanted a rose and now I got one. And I love it.”

Whether he’s captivating audiences with his on-screen brilliance or subtly expressing himself through his inked art, Gosling’s presence in both the entertainment and philanthropic spheres is a testament to the enduring fascination he evokes in the hearts of many.

A Guide To 5 Ryan Gosling Tattoos and What They Mean

1. The Giving Tree Tattoo

If you’ve ever seen images of Ryan Gosling topless, you’ve no doubt noticed the ink on his left shoulder. The tattoo is an image taken from the cover of the children’s book The Giving Tree. Written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein, the book was first released in 1964 and caused quite a stir, with the School Library Journal calling it “one of the most divisive books in children’s literature.”

It depicts the relationship between a young boy and an apple tree, which sounds fine, but when looked at closely, can be interpreted in a negative way. Whatever your thoughts on the book are, it played a special part in Gosling’s childhood, as it was a book his mom often read to him.

Although his parents divorced when he was just 11, the memory of his mom reading him The Giving Tree remains a positive one, so Gosling decided to get the book’s cover art tattooed on his arm. While he enjoyed the book as a youngster, he might have different thoughts these days. When asked about the tattoo by Vulture in 2010, Gosling said, “That story’s the worst… I don’t want to be the tree.”

2. Cactus Tattoo

ryan-gosling-tattoos-image-2

If you’ve ever thought about giving yourself a tattoo, this design on Ryan Gosling’s left forearm should do enough to sway you from trying. What looks like a tattoo of a cactus is actually meant to be a monster’s arm ripping out a bleeding heart. As he explained in an interview with The Guardian, “A lot of people think it’s a cactus. It’s become a bit of an inkblot: you see what you want to.”

To be fair to Gosling, the tattoo isn’t half bad for a home job. Next to the image are the initials “W.H.R.” which stands for Werewolf Hearts Records. Gosling obsessives will know that Werewolf Hearts Records was the label that released the debut album by Dead Man’s Bones, Gosling’s band.

3. Ghostly Lady With a Skeleton Tattoo

ryan-gosling-tattoos-image-3

The majority of Ryan Gosling’s ink is located on his left arm, with this tattoo hidden on the inside of the upper part of his left forearm. Seen best in Place Beyond the Pines, the tattoo is of a ghostly lady lying down with a skeleton. It’s a crudely drawn tattoo and one that Gosling hasn’t spoken about, although that hasn’t stopped the internet from guessing what it depicts.

Several online publications believe the tattoo is of famous actress, Theda Bara, who was a star in the early days of cinema. Between 1908 and 1926 Bara starred in over 40 films and was known for wearing revealing clothing, making her one of the first on-screen sex symbols.

4. Barcode Tattoo

Cineplex Movies/YouTube

Ryan Gosling’s barcode tattoo is, you guessed it, found on his left arm. Located on his left wrist, to be precise, this is another homemade tattoo Gosling gave himself. It is also another of his tattoos that doesn’t seem to have any meaning.

When asked about it during another interview with The Guardian in 2007, Gosling laughed and admitted it was a home job. “A tattoo should never be meaningful, because at a certain point you’re going to hate it, and it might as well make you laugh.”

5. “Esme” Tattoo

#AKAKI_VIDEO/YouTube

Throughout his time in the spotlight, Ryan Gosling has dated some of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Sandra Bullock and Rachel McAdams are two of the high-profile women to have entered Gosling’s life, but the Canadian actor is now happily loved up with Eva Mendes. The two met on the set of Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and have been together ever since. Although they aren’t married, they have two daughters together, Esmeralda and Amada.

In recognition of Esmerelda, his firstborn, Gosling got “Esme” tattooed on the knuckles of his left hand. It’s believed he got the tattoo sometime in 2015, a year after Esmeralda’s birth.

Scarlett Johansson Tattoos: A Guide To the Actor’s 8 Tattoos and What They Mean

1. Lamb and Flowers Tattoos

Andrea Raffin/Shutterstock

While these appear to be two different tattoos, Scarlett Johansson got them at the same time. Running up the length of the right side of her back is a tattoo of climbing roses alongside a small lamb.

All completed using smooth black and gray shading and taking a realistic approach to the design, this is by far Johansson’s largest and most elaborate piece.

Applied by her go-to artist, Josh Lord, Scarlett has never spoken openly about the significance behind this large piece, although many speculate that it is dedicated to her daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac.

2. Sunrise Tattoo

scarlett-johansson-tattoos-guide-2
s_bukley/Shutterstock

Located on her left forearm, Scarlett Johansson has a full-color depiction of the sun rising over the sea. Using a rudimentary approach that eschews bold outlines in favor of an approach more akin to watercolor paintings, the piece is childlike in its simplicity.

This is the most vibrant of ScarJo’s tattoos, and she has been reported saying that the simple piece and soft colors lift her mood and give her a feeling of optimism. “I’ve had the tattoo of a sunrise on my arm for a while,” she said, according to Zimbo. “It makes me happy when I look at it, but the reason I had it done is very personal. Some things have to remain private.”

3. Bracelet Tattoo

scarlett-johansson-tattoos-guide-3
Silvi Photo/Shutterstock

Another of ScarJo’s tattoos that elicited speculation is the small bracelet located on her right wrist. In this piece, the artist took a subdued approach that utilizes clean black ink to create the links of the chain and the single, dangling pendant. The significance behind some of the elements in this piece is straightforward: the charm says “I ❤ NY”, an ode to the city she was born in.

Others have speculated that the shape of the pendant is a reference to Thor’s Hammer in the Marvel franchise Johansson has starred in. Johansson hasn’t specifically confirmed this, although the time frame for when she got the tattoo inked does line up with this hypothesis.

4. “Lucky You” Horseshoe Tattoo

scarlett-johansson-tattoos-guide-4
HollyBolly Priyanka Rani Mix Shorts/YouTube

Located on her right rib cage, Johansson unveiled this piece in 2012 and it is reported that French tattooist Fuzi Uvtpk is the artist responsible. In this piece, the artist took a loose approach that gives the piece a rough, amateur feel that fits well with the playful nature of the design.

Horseshoes are classic elements in American traditional tattooing and their association with good luck is well known. While Johansson hasn’t spoken directly about the deeper significance of the piece, anyone that gets close enough to see this tattoo certainly would count themselves lucky.

5. Flying Owl Tattoo

Located on her right ribcage and continuing onto her stomach, near her horseshoe tattoo, Scarlett Johansson has a tattoo of an owl, mid-flight. This is one of her more mysterious pieces, thanks to its location and the limited glimpses that the Black Widow actor has provided during a variety of red carpets and in more candid settings.

Applied in clean black and gray and using a realistic approach this tattoo further cements Johansson’s preference for the understated appeal of black and gray work. Once again, Johansson plays it close to the vest and hasn’t spoken publicly about the significance behind this interesting tattoo.

6. Rose Tattoo

On her left side opposite her other designs, Scarlett Johansson has a single, black and gray rose. Once again, this piece is not as commonly seen as her other designs, though that doesn’t mean that fans aren’t interested in this cleanly etched piece of ink.

Like the roses on her much larger back tattoo, most of the speculation revolving around this piece suggests that is another reference to her daughter. According to Certified Tattoo Studio, the “rose has been a symbol of love and beauty” for centuries, so Johansson may have got the tattoo as a way to show her love for her daughter or husband, Colin Jost.

7. Avengers Insignia Tattoo

Located on the inside of her right, upper arm, Scarlett has a stylized version of the Avengers insignia from the billion-dollar superhero franchise that brought her back to the forefront of Hollywood.

Applied in 2018 by Josh Lord of Eastside Ink, this is Johansson’s most recent tattoo and a piece she shares with four of the six Avengers; Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner. Unfortunately, Mark Ruffalo chickened out and didn’t get the tattoo.

While the others in the team agreed to the ink, according to Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., the idea was tattoo lover Scarlett’s.

“Five of the original six Avengers got a tattoo. And the sixth was the tattoo artist, who gave it to five of us, the one who opted out being Mark Ruffalo,” Robert Downey Jr. told Entertainment Weekly. “It was Johansson’s idea, and she and Evans did it in New York. Then, their New York guy, Josh Lord, who is amazing, flew out to Los Angeles, he did me, did Renner, and then we just bullied Hemsworth into doing it, and he got it.”

8. Interlocked Circles With the Letter “A” Tattoo

scarlett-johansson-tattoos-guide-8
IWMBuzz/YouTube

The smallest tattoo Scarlett Johansson has is of two interlocking circles accompanied by the letter “A” in the foremost circle. Applied in simple black ink, this tattoo design is reminiscent of the ancient symbol known as vesica pisces which holds deep significance, both in mathematics as well as in the mystical discipline of Sacred Geometry.

There has been much speculation about the meaning of this tattoo, although Johansson has never spoken directly about the significance of this tiny design. Some conjecture suggests that “A” may be a former flame or some other significant person’s initial, but until Johansson lets us in on the secret we will have to wait for a definitive answer.

A walking canvas of artistic expression—a whopping 70% of his body is covered in ink—Barker’s love for tattoos has become an integral part of his persona. As fans of both his music and tattoos, we’ve decided to dive deep into 30 Travis Barker tattoos and what they mean.

With his heavily inked arms, chest, and legs, Barker is a living testament to the power of body art. Getting his first tattoo at age 15, it didn’t take long for Barker to develop an obsession with tattoos. Each of his tattoos tells a story, representing different aspects of his life, passions, and experiences. From intricate designs to meaningful symbols, his body serves as a visual autobiography.

Barker’s love affair with tattoos goes beyond mere aesthetics. For him, each tattoo is a form of self-expression, a way to communicate his emotions, beliefs, and personal journey. The ink that covers his skin is a reflection of his diverse interests and influences, ranging from music and family to spirituality and personal growth. In his autobiography, Can I Say, the skateboard enthusiast discusses his tattoos, saying, “They’re all memories. They’re all experiences I went through.”

He has even ventured into the world of tattooing himself, opening a tattoo studio called The Raven and the Wolves in Los Angeles. This endeavor showcases his dedication to the art form and his desire to share it with others.

Barker’s tattoos have also become a source of inspiration for countless fans and aspiring tattoo enthusiasts. His bold and fearless approach to body art encourages people to embrace their individuality and express themselves through ink. His passion for tattoos has transcended his own body and resonated with a wide audience, leaving an indelible mark on the world of tattoo culture.

Through his extensive body art, he invites us into his world, telling stories with every stroke of ink. Whether on stage or off, Barker continues to inspire and captivate, showcasing the enduring power of tattoos as a form of personal expression and artistic freedom.

As many of Barker’s tatts are spur-of-the-moment suggestions or have no meaning (at least none Barker has expressed publicly), we’ve chosen to only highlight his most important and meaningful tattoos.

1. Boombox Tattoo

Arguably the most recognized of Travis Barker’s tattoos, the boombox is plastered across his stomach. Just above the boombox is an angel spreading her wings. What does it all mean? According to Body Art Guru, it’s all about his love for music.

“The boom box on my stomach is because I grew up loving to break-dance and I collected ghetto blasters,” Barker said in an interview. “I had like 20 of them. Everyone else would go buy candy and I would buy boom boxes and carry them around and break-dance on the street corner on a piece of cardboard. So I got my favorite boom box when I was 21.”

2. “Can I Say” Tattoo

Another of Barker’s more distinguishable tattoos, “can I say” is sprawled across his upper chest. The short three-letter phrase is actually the title of an album by punk rockers Dag Nasty. The Washington DC band was one of the first acts Barker got into as a teenager, so he decided to get the name of their first album inked on his body.

“I have a Dag Nasty Symbol,” Body Art Guru reports Barker saying in an interview. “That’s a band I grew up listening to. And I have ‘Can I Say’ because it’s the name of their first album.”

3. “Self Made” Tattoo

Check out Travis Barker’s knuckles and you will see the words “Self” and “Made” tattooed on his right and left hands respectively. Barker has had these words since 2000, and they represent how everything he has in life has been through his own hard work and determination.

4. Transplants Gas Mask

The Transplants are a band consisting chiefly of founders Tim Armstrong of Rancid and Operation Ivy and his good friend and roadie Rob Aston. Together with Barker and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Bivona, the quartet has released three albums and an EP since 1999.

In recognition of the band, Barker got a gas mask, the band’s emblem, tattooed on his head. It’s a rather gnarly tattoo and one of several on his head alongside a tatt of the Virgin Mary and the phrases “Family Loyalty Respect,” “Family First,” and “One Life One Chance.”

5. “Alabama” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-5
Fuse/YouTube

As someone who uses tattoos to tell his life story, it’s not surprising that the people who are important in Travis Barker’s life are etched on his skin. On his left wrist, Barker has the name of his daughter, Alabama, tattooed.

Born on December 24, 2005, Alabama is Barker’s second child with 1995 Miss USA Shanna Moakler, also his second ex-wife. This isn’t the only tattoo Barker has of his daughter, with a portrait of her on his back.

6. “Landon” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-6

On his right wrist, Barker has his son’s name inked in the same font as his daughter’s name on the opposite wrist. Landon was born on October 9, 2003. Barker also has a portrait tattoo of his son on his back.

7. Family Portrait Tattoos

As mentioned above, Barker has portraits of both his two children tattooed on his back. Not only that, he also has portrait tattoos of his mother, father, and Jesus Christ. These tattoos take up the majority of his back and show how much family means to the Blink-182 drummer.

In an interview with Vice, Barker described how the entire back tribute took over four to five sessions of ten hours each, with two tattoo artists working on him simultaneously.

8. Race Flag Tattoo

Apaan Sih Ini TV?/YouTube

Turns out Travis Barker is a car guy, specifically Cadillacs. He enjoys them so much he got a race flag tattoo on his neck that is meant to represent the year of his favorite Cadillac.

“The race flag on my neck is for the year of my favorite Cadillac,” Barker said in an interview according to Body Art Guru. “I also have Japanese flowers on the back of my neck. I don’t even know what they look like because I can’t see back there. But I have a heart that says ‘Mom’ with the flowers.”

This isn’t the only reference to the automobile on his body, with Barker also sporting a large 1947 Cadillac logo on the right side of his torso alongside a big bold script of the word Cadillac. Both tatts were inked by famous tattoo artist Franco Vescovi, with the Cadillac script taking around 12 hours to complete.

9. “Hope” Tattoo

One of the larger tattoos Barker has is the word “Hope” across the lower part of his back. The inspiration for this piece is the song “Hope” by the punk act Descendants.

10. “LLJ” Tattoo

While conducting a live interview on 106.7 FM KROQ’s Kevin & Bean show, Barker got a tattoo dedicated to rapper XXXTentacion, another tattoo lover, who was killed in 2018. The tattoo is of the letters “LLJ,” which stands for “Long Live Jahseh,” with Jahseh being XXX’s real name.

11. “Don’t Trust Anyone”

This is one of Barker’s more recent additions and is on his neck. “Don’t Trust Anyone” is the name of a song the drummer featured on with the rap duo $UICIDEBOY$ and is possibly a dig at his ex-wife Moakler, at least according to the tabloid Page Six.

12. “One Life One Chance” Tattoo

As mentioned earlier, this tattoo is on the top of Barker’s scalp. It deserves to be mentioned in greater detail because of what it stands for. One Life One Chance is the name of a non-profit organization founded by H2O lead singer Toby Morse in 2009.

The purpose of the organization is to encourage kids to live a straight-edge life free from drugs and concentrate on being good people and the best that they can be. Barker was asked to become part of One Life One Chance in 2010 and was keen as mustard to get involved. So much so that he got the organization’s name inked on his head.

13. Crossroads Kitchen Logo

A known vegan, Travis Barker is a big fan of the vegan restaurant Crossroads Kitchen. So much so that he got its logo—two crossing knives—inked on his arm by tattoo artist Chuey Quintanar. He got this tattoo on June 9, 2014, almost a year after the eatery opened.

14. “Pal” Tattoo

Barker and his father got matching tattoos of the word “Pal,” which is a nickname they call each other. He elaborated on the tattoo in an interview with Vice.

“It was funny, ‘cos growing up he said: ‘If you ever get a tattoo, I’m gonna kick your ass and kick you out of the house.’ But many years later—20 years—Pops had some tattoos of his own. It’s awesome. My mum passed away when I was 12, so my relationship with him is so important. He works alongside my business mergers. He helps me pay bills, keeps me organized. I speak to him every morning like clockwork. It’s always good to have a parent there to keep you humble, keep you grounded.”

15. Praying Hands Tattoo

Apaan Sih Ini TV?/YouTube

When Barker has a shaved head, this tattoo is hard to miss. Located on the left side of his skull is a design of praying hands with Barker’s surname written in cursive inside a scroll. This is one of several religious tattoos Barker has acquired over the journey. As Body Art Guru reports, Barker was brought up religiously and has these tattoos as a sign of his faith.

“I have a sacred heart when I was 19 because I was brought up Catholic. I also have a microphone, dice, and Jesus. I figured if I tattooed Jesus on me, good things would happen, or maybe he’d have my back or something.”

16. Skull Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-16

Barker had several tattoos referencing his former wife Moakler but has covered the majority of them up since they officially divorced in 2008. The drummer had her initials on his right hand but got tattooist Scott Campbell to cover it with a skull design.

It just so happened that his new wife, Kourtney Kardashian, was on hand to watch as he got the tattoo. Wonder if she had anything to do with it?

17. “Mom” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-17
Apaan Sih Ini TV?/YouTube

At the base of his neck is a small unassuming tattoo of the word “Mom” in a scroll. This is a dedication to Barker’s mother who passed away when he was a child from Sjogren Syndrome. Barker credits his mom for much of his success and this tattoo is a tribute to her impact on his life. He also has her name, Gloria, tattooed on his neck by Chuey Quintanar.

18. Virgin Mary Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-18
DUB Magazine/YouTube

Another skull tattoo, this one of the Virgin Mary covers the top of his scalp. Chuey Quintanar is the artist who inked the tattoo in April 2012. The tattoo is another religious piece that demonstrates Barker’s faith, with Body Art Guru revealing his thoughts on the tattoo in an interview he did.

“I was brought up Catholic. I definitely pray; I believe in God. I definitely think I was blessed, and I’m here for a reason after being the only survivor of a plane crash. So I’m not at church every day and I’m not pushing religion on people. But I believe in God and I pray and my kids pray.”

19. “Familia” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-18
Fuse/YouTube

In the nook of his right arm is the word “Familia” inked above red and blue roses. If you know Spanish you will know “Familia” is the word for “Family,” with this tattoo another design showing how much Barker loves those close to him.

20. DJ AM Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-20
Fuse/YouTube

Travis Barker was involved in a terrible plane crash in 2008 that claimed the life of everyone on board besides himself and DJ AM, also known as Adam Goldstein. The incident saw Barker severely burned, spending 11 weeks in hospital and undergoing 16 surgeries. Thankfully he was able to recover and continue his career, but the same can’t be said for DJ AM, who died less than a year later from a drug overdose.

While the plane crash caused Barker to suffer survivor’s guilt and post-traumatic stress syndrome, along with ramping up his fear of flying (it took 13 years before he would step foot on a plane again), the death of DJ AM also hit Barker hard.

In tribute to his fallen friend, Barker got his name inked on his left thigh above the image of a crying baby angel praying. This is one of Barker’s most personal tattoos.

21. Tulip Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-21
M S/YouTube

Extending down his right arm is a tattoo of a tulip. This is a random tattoo Barker got to finish his sleeve, as an interview published by Body Art Guru reveals. “I was in Denver and I was bored and wanted to get tattooed to finish my arm up. So I just went into this shop and this guy buys me that [flower on his arms]. He specialized in Tulips. I’m not a flower guy, but it’s an honor to get a tattoo from him because he won’t even tattoo you if he doesn’t like you.”

22. “I Love You” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoos-22
Access Hollywood/YouTube

Since they have been together, Travis Barker has got several tattoos referencing his relationship with Kourtney Kardashian. He has her name inked on his chest near his nipple and her lips are tattooed on his arm. The most impressive, though, are the words “I Love You” tattooed on his wrist.

It might be a relatively simple tattoo, but what makes it so special is the fact Kardashian is the one responsible for the artwork. She tattooed her own husband. Does love get any better?

23. “I Did It My Way” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-guide-23
The Real Daytime/YouTube

Across the outside of his hands, Barker has the words “I did it my way” tattooed. “I did it” is on his right hand and “my way” is on his left. This phrase is also the title of a song made famous by Frank Sinatra, with many speculating Barker is a fan of the tune or the message the phrase conveys, with Barker living life his way.

24. “LaSalle” Tattoo

Access Hollywood/YouTube

LaSalle is the name of Barker’s record label which he set up in 2004. He got this tattoo on the left side of his torso as a dedication to the label.

25. 1975 Tattoo

Following a long list of celebrities, Barker also has the year he was born tattooed on his body. 1975 can be found on the lower part of his left forearm as a reminder of when he came into the world.

Barker, born on November 14, 1975, also has a scorpion on his right hand, which is his Zodiac. This tattoo was inked by Oliver Macintosh on September 8, 2014.

26. “Trigz RIP” Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-guide-26
GQ/YouTube

This is another tattoo to a fallen comrade. Trigz, born Michael Christopher Pebley, was a celebrity tattoo artist who was tragically shot to death after an argument. The story goes that a customer, Robert Andrew Falcon, said something offensive to Pebley and the two got into a verbal slinging match that turned physical. Falcon pulled out a pistol and gunned down Pebley, killing him.

Trigz’s death caused shock in the tattoo community, with the 40-year-old father of five known as a great guy and family man. His death also impacted Barker, with the drummer getting “Trigz RIP” inked on his right forearm as tribute.

27. Rose Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-27
DUB Magazine/YouTube

On the right side of his neck is a tattoo of a rose. This is actually another cover-up, with the rose tattoo covering his Melissa tattoo, which is the name of his first wife, Melissa Kennedy. He got this ink done shortly after marrying his second wife Shanna Moakler.

28. Number Seven Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-28
Fuse/YouTube

Barker considers seven his lucky number, so he got it tattooed on his right arm. In an interview referenced by Body Art Guru, Barker had this to say about the tattoo: “My right arm is like my good luck arm. It has everything—a deck of cards, drumsticks, a martini glass, a dollar sign, my lucky number seven, my initials, and a rabbit’s foot. I have a devil that was of Black Label skateboards. I was into skateboarding when I was 22, so I got it. It healed really badly, but I refused to get it touched up. I don’t want to touch up any of my stuff. It just looks rad.”

29. Randalai Tamara Tattoo

travis-barker-tattoo-29
Access Hollywood/YouTube

If you haven’t worked it out by now, family means a lot to Barker. Another addition to his collection of family-related tattoos is the names of his sisters, Randalai and Tamara, inked on the left side of his torso.

30. Kid Sketch Tattoos

Kourtney Kardashian isn’t the only family member to tattoo Barker. Both his children, Landon and Alabama, have put their mark on their father. On Barker’s left thigh, Landon inked a cross with the letters L and A, while Alabama inked a heart with the letter A inside. He talked about his kids tattooing him in a 2016 profile in GQ.

“I have this portion on my thigh where basically anytime I get tattooed, if they’re around and they want to, they can grab the gun and doodle on me. It’s like a sketchbook. Those are the memories that are really priceless. It all started because Landon wanted a tattoo. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t. He was worked up and in tears. I had to explain that I’d go to jail if you get a tattoo. So I said ‘Let’s make a deal, you tattoo me.'”

1. Two Swallows Tattoos

Harry Styles enjoys wearing his shirt open and showing off his chest. But it’s not just his body the former One Direction is revealing, with his torso covered in tatts. The most prominent is two swallows on his upper chest. While they might seem like decoration, there is a reason Styles got the ink.

“I got two swallows on my chest,” Styles told Us Weekly. “I like that kind of style of tattoos, like the old sailor kind of tattoos. They symbolize traveling, and we travel a lot!”

2. Handshake Tattoo

Celeb On Air/YouTube

On his left arm is a tattoo of two hands shaking. This is a common tattoo design that has many different meanings but usually represents friendship, equality, and positivity. Underneath this tattoo are the words “Silver Spoon,” a tattoo meant to reference the success of One Direction.

3. Letter “A” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-3
Celeb On Air/YouTube

In the crook of his left arm, Styles has a small letter “A” inked. One of the more non-descript tattoos on his body, it’s believed to be a tribute to his mother, Anne Twist. The boy loves his mommy.

4. Skeleton in a Suit Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-4
Celeb On Air/YouTube

On his upper lift arm, Styles has the image of a skeleton wearing a suit. He got the tattoo sometime in 2013, with the skeleton dressed in a black suit and top hat with a red bowtie and ribbon in his hat. It’s actually a pretty cool tattoo that he revealed during One Direction’s tour of Australia and New Zealand.

5. “Late Late” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-5
Celeb On Air/YouTube

While in One Direction, Styles and the other members appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden. They played a game where they picked random boxes and had to take part in an activity, with Styles picking the box that required him to get a tattoo live on television. He was forced to get the logo of the show, “Late Late,” inked on his body, choosing to get the small tattoo on the inside of his left arm.

6. Rose Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-6
Celeb On Air/YouTube

A large rose can be seen on the left forearm of Styles. Rumors persist that he got the tattoo as a tribute to former flame Taylor Swift after they broke up, but it could just be that Styles likes roses.

7. Naked Mermaid Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-7
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Another tattoo found on Styles’ left arm, the naked mermaid was inked by world famous UK tattoo artist Liam Sparkles. According to HollywoodLife, when asked about the tattoo, Styles said, “I am a mermaid.” Enough said really.

8. Green Bay Packers Logo Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-8
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Although he might be English, Harry Styles is a big fan of American football. Especially the Green Bay Packers. The story behind the small tattoo of the team’s logo Styles has on his left arm concerns the singer making a bet with his friend one night.

Styles agreed to get the tattoo if Green Bay won a game they were planning on watching together. When they met the next day, Styles’ friend ask if he was still happy with the bet. Not one to back down, Styles said he was so confident they would win that he would get the tatt before the game, which he proceeded to do. The bad news was the Packers ended up losing the game.

This tatt is just one of many small designs on Harry’s left arm, with the others including a black star, three nails, and a coat hanger.

9. Giant Heart Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-9
Celeb On Air/YouTube

No, this isn’t a cute love heart but a large anatomical heart tattoo on Styles’ left arm. It’s said Styles got the tattoo after being inspired by his girlfriend at the time, who had a similar tattoo.

10. Eagle Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-10
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Styles has a tattoo of an eagle on the inside of his right arm. This piece is actually a cover-up tattoo. The heartthrob got the design to replace the words “Thing’s I Can” that he had originally got. Styles hasn’t revealed why he covered up the original tattoo, but there is no denying the eagle tattoo looks much better.

11. Butterfly Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-11
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Along with the two swallows on his chest, Styles also has a large butterfly on his torso. This is one of the singer’s more impressive tattoos.

12. Anchor Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-12
Celeb On Air/YouTube

This is another cover-up tattoo. Found on his left wrist, Styles got the anchor to cover the words “I Can’t Change.” There’s nothing remarkable about the tattoo, but it does look better than the previous ink. He also has a small padlock tattoo in the vicinity of the anchor.

13. Bottle of Booze Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-13
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Another left arm tattoo, this one is of a bottle of booze surrounded by the phrase “You booze, you lose.” This is another design inked by tattooist Liam Sparkles. It’s not known why Styles got the ink, as he is a known boozer.

14. Ship Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-14
Celeb On Air/YouTube

This tattoo on Styles’ left shoulder is often associated with Taylor Swift, as many people believe he got the tattoo while the two were dating. Fans drew this conclusion after an actor resembling Styles with a similar tattoo appeared in Swift’s music video for the song “I Knew You Were Trouble.”

But Style has insisted the tattoo has nothing to do with Swift and is meant as a reminder of his home when he’s traveling the world.

15. Holy Bible Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-15
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Just below his tattoo of a bottle of booze is one of the Bible. This is another tattoo without any explanation, but as Style was brought up in a Catholic household, it could be his way of showing his faith through his tattoos.

16. Iced Gem Cookie Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-16
Celeb On Air/YouTube

This small tattoo is on Styles’ left arm and is of a popular British biscuit known as, you guessed it, an Iced Gem. The reason for this abstract tattoo is Styles’ sister Gemma, who is often called by her nickname, Gem.

17. “NY, LA, and Lon” Tattoos

harry-styles-tattoo-image-17
Celeb On Air/YouTube

It’s probably obvious but this series of tattoos stands for the cities New York, Los Angeles, and London, which are said to be Styles’ three favorite places in the world. Near these tattoos, he also has his sister Gemma’s name inked in Hebrew, a black heart, and the words “Can I stay?”

18. Birdcage Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-18
Celeb On Air/YouTube

On the left side of Styles’ torso is a tattoo of a birdcage along with a tattoo of the Comedy and Tragedy Masks, a tattoo Tom Hardy also sports. The letters “SMCL” are also tattooed here, with many speculating they stand for Simon Cowell, the man responsible for the creation of One Direction.

19. Triangle Refracting Light

harry-styles-tattoo-image-19
Celeb On Air/YouTube

If this design looks familiar it’s because it’s inspired by the cover art of Pink Floyd’s A Dark Side of the Moon. It’s basically a black-and-white copy of the album cover artwork.

20. “Jackson” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-20
Celeb On Air/YouTube

This tattoo is named after Jackson Aurand, the son of former One Direction official photographer Calvin Aurand. It turns out Styles and Aurand got along well, with Jackson Style’s godson, hence the tattoo.

21. Letter “R” Tattoo

Opposite Styles’ mermaid tattoo is a small cursive capital “R.” Similar to his letter “A” tattoo, this is another tribute to a family member, this time his stepfather, Robin Twist.

22. Shamrock Tattoo

On his left wrist Styles has a collection of small tattoos that includes a Shamrock. It’s believed this tattoo is a tribute to LA’s Shamrock Social Club Tatto Parlor, a place where Styles has got the majority of his tattoos. Other small tattoos he has on his writs include a key, padlock, 99p design, and his zodiac birth sign; Aquarius.

23. “17Black” Tattoo

Just above the swallow on his left chest is the number-word combination “17Black.” A big James Bond fan, Styles got this tattoo to show his fandom. For those not in the know, “17 black” is the number and color Bond puts a winning bet on in the movie Diamonds Are Forever.

24. “Never Gonna Dance Again” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-24
Celeb On Air/YouTube

This tattoo is across the upper part of Harry’s feet, with “Never Gonna” on his right foot and “Dance Again” on his left. If the words sound familiar, it’s because they are part of the chorus to the classic George Micahel song “Careless Whisper.” Styles, a big Michael fan, got the tattoo as a tribute to the recently deceased legend.

25. Parents’ Birthdates Tattoos

He might be a jet-setting pop star but Styles is very much a family guy. Along with tattoos in honor of his sister, mother, and stepfather, he also has the year his parents were born inked on either side of his collarbone. On the left-hand side is his dad’s year of birth, 1957, and on his right-hand side is his mother’s, 1967.

26. Cross With the Letter “B” Tattoo

This tattoo is another tribute to a family member. It’s a small cross with the letter “B” which apparently represents his grandfather, Brian Selley, and his paternal grandmother, Beryl German. He also has the name “Mary” inked on his right arm which is a tribute to his other grandmother, Mary Smith, along with a cross with the letter “K” and a cross with the letter “M” underneath his “17Black” tattoo, with the initials representing his grandfather Keith Fredrick Styles and grandmother, Mary Smith.

27. “Brasil!” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-27
Clevver News/YouTube

While touring Rio de Janeiro with One Direction, Styles was inspired to get this tattoo. It’s one of the few tattoos fans rarely see due to the fact that it’s located on his bum. Why he got it there is not known, but it’s another interesting tattoo.

28. Tiger Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-28
The Late Late Show with James Corden/YouTube

On his left thigh, Styles has a tattoo of a tiger head. As Body Art Guru explains, “Harry had revealed the real identity of this tattoo during a BBC Radio show when he was asked a question about his new ink. He said, ‘Roaaar!'”

29. “PINGU” Tattoo

harry-styles-tattoo-image-29
Celeb On Air/YouTube

Styles is a big fan of the stop-motion penguin Pingu, and to show his fandom, got the word “PINGU” inked on his left inner bicep. This tattoo is part of a collection of small designs that include his Green Bay Packers logo tattoo, black star tattoo, iced gem tattoo, and “Hi” tattoo.

30. “Yes” and “No” Tattoos

Above and below his left and right knees Styles has the word “Yes” and “No” tattooed. On his right leg, he has “Yes” written in French above the knee and in Spanish below the knee, and on his left leg, he has “No” written in French above the knee and in Spanish below the knee.

31. Fern Leaf Tattoo

Styles has two fern leaves on either side of his waist that are usually covered by his pants. This tattoo is another cover-up, with Styles not happy with the “Might as well” tattoo he previously got inked.

A Guide To 17 LeBron James Tattoos and What They Mean https://nextluxury.com/tattoos/lebron-james-tattoos/ Wed, 28 Jun 2023 19:00:00 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=304776 …]]> LeBron James is regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. The four-time NBA Champion has done it all in the game and won just about every award there is. Kicking off his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2003, “King James” has also played for the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers, where he is currently based.

Along with being one of the greats thanks to his exceptional skills on the court, LeBron is also known for his eye-catching tattoos. Each tattoo adorning his body tells a unique story, reflecting his personal journey and the values that have shaped him into the athlete and philanthropist he is today. That’s why we’ve decided to dive into 17 LeBron James tattoos and discover what they mean to the basketball legend.

James’ tattoos serve as a visual narrative, offering a glimpse into his life and the people who have influenced him. Many of the tattoos on his body are dedicated to important people who have helped shape him during his life, including his mother, Gloria James, wife Savannah James, and three children Bronny James, Bryce James, and Zhuri James.

In addition to personal tributes, LeBron’s tattoos also reflect his passions, beliefs, and commitment to social justice and advocacy. LeBron is both a leader on the court and off it and has used his unique position in the spotlight to support those less fortunate, starting the LeBron James Family Foundation in 2004.

LeBron James’ tattoos not only make a bold statement but also provide a glimpse into his personal and professional life. From tributes to his loved ones to symbols of strength and social activism, each tattoo represents a chapter in his life story. As LeBron continues to make his mark on and off the basketball court, his tattoos serve as a constant reminder of the values and experiences that have shaped him into the legendary figure he is today.

1. “Chosen 1” Tattoo

Across the top of his back, LeBron James has “Chosen 1” inked in large letters. This tattoo references LeBron’s first cover story in the 2002 February 18 issue of the famed sports magazine Sports Illustrated. As part of the article, LeBron was hailed as “The Chosen One,” a nickname he fully embraced. So much so that he decided to get it tattooed on his back.

2. “Beast” Tattoo

On his upper left arm, LeBron James has the word “Beast” tattooed. While there isn’t much information floating around about why he has this tattoo or when he got it, considering how much of a beast he is on the court, it’s probably got to do with his prowess with the ball.

The Los Angeles Laker also has the phrase “Hold My Own” tattooed below the word “Beast.”

3. “Witness” Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-3
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

You may have noticed LeBron James has tattoos all over his body, including his legs. On his right calf is the word “Witness.” Why you ask? He got the tattoo after a successful run during the NBA playoffs in 2006, the first time the Cavs had made the finals since 1998.

Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, shoemaker Nike used the word as part of a marketing campaign that included several successful commercials that no doubt helped sell a few shoes.

4. “What We Do In Life Echos In Eternity” Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-4
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

While he has admitted to being a big fan of The Godfather movies, it’s safe to say LeBron James also enjoys watching Russell Crowe’s Gladiator. On his right arm he has the words “What we do in life,” and on his left arm “Echos in eternity,” which is a famous quote from the historical epic.

Crowe’s Roman general Maximus Decimus Meridius prepares his troops for battle against the Germanic tribes with a spine-tingling speech that ends with him saying the line, “Brothers, what we do in life… echoes in eternity.” This obviously had an impact on LeBron, who decided to get the phrase tattooed on his body.

5. Lion With Crown Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-5
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

Much like a lion, LeBron James is an apex predator who dominates all those he comes across. To reflect this, the four-time NBA Finals MVP has the head of a lion inked on his right bicep. This was the first arm tattoo LeBron got and one that he has added to over the years, getting the word “King” tattooed above the lion and the word “James” below, with King James also being one of the basketballer’s nicknames.

6. “303” Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-6
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

Getting the area code of your hometown has become a thing these days. LeBron is one of many famous people to get this type of tattoo. His reads “303,” which is the area code of his hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Located on his right forearm, James got the tattoo sometime before his fourth season in the NBA.

7. “Gloria” Tattoo

LeBron credits his mom for much of his success, so it’s no surprise he has her name inked on his body. The tattoo is located just above the lion tattoo on his right arm.

8. Bronny James Portrait Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-8
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

To celebrate the first birthday of his son Bronny James, the King got a portrait of his firstborn on the inside of his left forearm.

9. Bryce Maximus Tattoo

This is the name of LeBron’s second child who the NBA superstar has tattooed on his right forearm. Unlike his older brother Bronny, who LeBron got a portrait of, only Bryce’s name appears on his father’s body. Obviously not the favorite son then…

10. Initials Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-10
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

The Lakers great has his own initials tattooed on his body. The letter “L” can be found on his left tricep and the letter “J” on his right tricep. It’s always a ballsy move to get your own initials inked on your body, but if you can live up to expectations like LeBron has, then it’s such a power move.

11. “Family” and “Loyalty” Tattoos

lebron-james-tattoos-image-11
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

In what must have been a painful session at the tattoo parlor, LeBron James has the word “Family” running down the right side of his torso. On the left side, he has the word “Loyalty,” with both tatts written in the same font style.

It’s assumed these tattoos represent how much LeBron’s family means to him and the loyalty they have to each other.

12. “Est 1984” Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-12
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

Getting a tattoo that celebrates your birthday is something LeBron shares with many ink loves. Mac Miller and Shia LaBeouf are two other well-known celebrities who also have their date of birth or the year they were born inked on them. LeBron’s is located on his left shoulder and reads “Est 1984.”

13. Lion Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-13
Alihan Olcar/YouTube

Not content with having just the head of a lion, LeBron went all out and got an entire lion tattooed across his chest. But this isn’t any ordinary lion, as it has wings. In Christianity, Saint Mark is symbolized as a winged lion, with the image also a symbol of the city of Venice.

LeBron, a known Christian, most likely got this tattoo due to his faith, although there is a small section of conspiracy theorists who believe the tattoo is the symbol for the Boule Group, a secretive society of elite black men

14. “Akron” Tattoo

lebron-james-tattoos-image-14
